What was high school like? Did you pass your driving test the first time?
High school wasn't fun for me - but I think it's not fun for most people. I was a good student but I was also a rebellious kid, so I managed to get myself into quite a good bit of trouble.
I passed my driver's test on the first try, even though I mangled the parallel parking part. I was so nervous, my foot was shaking on the gas pedal. When the instructor told me I passed, I was so happy, I hugged her!
We bet you've met some interesting people. Who was the craziest character you've ever had to drive around?
There have been quite a few interesting characters. The craziest was this guy who refused to tell me where to take him. We had an argument about it because I didn't know where to go. After some back and forth between us, he finally told me his destination and apologized. At the end of the trip, he told me not to kill any kittens.
If a teenager wanted to do your job, what would you tell her?
It's a very stressful job, so I guess I would tell someone to be very patient and to be prepared to let things roll off your back.
If you could go back in time, what would you say to your teenage self?
"Don't worry, it's only temporary."
If you weren't driving your cab, what else would you like to do?
Like for a living? I don't know. There are a bunch of things I'd like to do. I wanted to be an animal cop for a while, like for the ASPCA - they are the ones who go and save abused animals from bad people. But then I found out you need two years of law enforcement experience to do that, so that's pretty much out of the question. I've also been thinking about joining the Peace Corps eventually.
Right now, I'm working on relearning Calculus, because I've always loved math (though when I was a teenager that was very uncool), but I don't see any practical applications for that type of knowledge in my life right now.... I guess I'm just gonna see what comes, and do whatever strikes me as the best thing to do next.
