I like playing with the guys in my band--they're pretty cool--but their musical tastes are totally different from mine. I feel too intimidated to speak up because I'm not as accomplished musically as they are. What should I do?

I'LL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO
Stop moaning and assert yourself. So you're not as accomplished musically, does that mean you can't have ideas?

So tell them what kind of music you like and ask them to incorporate it into their other stuff. If they're cool, they'll do it.

    TELL THEM!!!
There's no harm in sharing your ideas with them and if they hate them, then start your own band. Without teamwork, you can't have a band.

    Talk to them
If you are in a band with these guys then you should talk to them about it! There should be room for some compromise and who knows, maybe they'll love the music you want to play!

    Simple
Just ask them if you can play a couple of songs you like. If they say no then you should just start your own band with people who have the same taste in music as you.

Then get so you can trust them!
It's really important when you're in a band (especially with guys) that you're close with them. So my advice is that you make an effort to get to know them better. Then you'll feel more comfortable talking to them about band issues.

I'm in a band with guys and they're my best friends. It's not a big deal to them if I tell them I don't like how we're doing something. In fact, usually they admire me for speaking up. I'm pretty sure it'll work out the same for you! Good luck!

    Open your mouth!
I know you feel intimidated, but they wouldn't let you join their band if they didn't see you as an equal. Just ask if you guys can do a song you like together. Anyway, good bands aren't afraid to try new things, and you only get better by listening to each other and opening up. Good luck!<3

    My Advice
Start your own band and find some people that are just as talented.

    Feel Free To Speak Up!
Make a suggestion that you guys could try a song that you like. Perhaps they would like the style as well. If not, maybe you could start your own band. You don't have to be in a band to be friends.

    Don't worry
If you want to stay in the band, just talk to one of the guys who you feel comfortable with and say that their music taste is nice but you don't like it all the time. This way you can get him to talk to the rest of the guys about it. Hope it works out.
