My friend is a lesbian and she's been dropping subtle hints that she's interested in me. She'll make comments, but these comments really make me uncomfortable. How do I let her know that I value our friendship, but am not interested in her THAT way...without hurting her feelings?

    Here's The Deal
I know this is a very tough situation since shes your friend but also is a lesbian that is giving hints that she likes you. Okay, this is what I would do: tell her what you think and if she tries to cover up then give her reasons as to why you feel that way. If you want to continue being friends with her than tell her. If you guys are still friends and she tries hitting on you and you dont fell comfortable, you shouldnt be her friend anymore because part of being a friend is respecting what one says and feels.

    Simple!
It should be just like telling a guy friend that you're not interested in him. Say that things have been a little strange lately--but that you don't want to destroy your friendship. Odds are, if she really has been crushing on you, it's because she already felt close to you because of your great friendship, and trusts you a lot.

There's a possibility that she may be hurt for a little while--getting rejected kind of sucks. But I think she'll get over it, and realize that it's better to have you as a friend than not have you at all.

I would tell her that these comments are making you feel that way. She needs to know how you feel because you don't want to lose your friendship over it, but if she thinks you like her as well, you could.

    Blunt is Best
I know it must be hard for you, but you've come upon a person who's been on her side of the situation before: me. Therefore, I'll just tell you what I'd best like to be told, that you simply don't swing that way and that being friends is better than nothing, no? Good luck ^_^

Don't make a huge deal of it, but the next time she starts making those type of comments, gently (as opposed to defensively) let her know that she's making you uncomfortable. With luck, that should be enough to get her to back off. If not, tell her exactly what you posted: that you do value her as a friend, but that's as far as you're going to take it. You seem like a mature, conscientious person so she should appreciate having a friend like you. :)

Just talk to her and if she's a good friend like she sounds, she'll understand.
