    Good for you!
I'm so glad you're interested in becoming vegan. I agree, I don't think your mom will flip out. I mean it's not a BAD thing--it's a very good, healthy, smart and moral thing to do. For recipies I recommend www.vegweb.com, they have some amazing food. Also for more info you could show your mom to help her better understand, try going to www.Goveg.com. Also, Peta's website has a lot of info and free starter pamphlets you can get in the mail. I think the more info you can give her, the more she'll understand and maybe even follow you!

Explain to your mother your beliefs, get research online (from many differant sources, my mom freaked out and said peta was only one view) and also how many calories of thing you need(calcium, protein...). Then, plan out a suggested meal plan to prove to her that you know what you're talking about and you are willing to make the sacrifices. Hope I helped.

    Get some recipes...
I would suggest getting some more information on it, like the kind of things you can eat and what you like the taste of. Get together some recipes that aren't too advanced, show them to your mum, tell her calmly that you want to be a Vegan and show her the recipies as suggestions. Then, ask her to help you cook them. That way you're learning for yourself which will make your mum see it as a mature suggestion.

    Know your stuff...
Consider geting a copy of "Vegetables Rock! A Complete Guide for Teenage Vegetarians" by Stephanie Pierson and reading it with your mom. And maybe you should consider starting with becoming a vegetarian and then working up to being vegan, because it will be easier to deal with food/cooking. Also, your family and your mom will probably be more receptive to that idea. You can email me if you need any advice.

    She`ll understand.
It's not like you're pregnant-- this is just a choice you want to make about your way of life and how you want to eat. Your mom will understand, I am sure. Don't sweat it, just tell her how you feel about it.

You never know, maybe your mom will want to try it too. Maybe she could end up trying it with you and like it, then thank you for it. It could even bring you all closer together...you never know.

    Tell her
If I was in your shoes, I would just buy some vegeterian cook books and cook a dish for your family! If they think it's delicious, they might get interested in that kind of food. They will give total respect to your point of view! Good luck.
