Your mom really should support your decision because there's no such thing as the perfect guy and if he's as sweet and nice as you say he is then to me that's as perfect as he's gonna get.

I think your mom should grow up a little and think about what she's teaching you, by judging someone by their looks and popularity and reputations. It made me quite angry when i read your question.

There is this guy who asked me out last year and I turned him down because people made fun of him, but he didn't know and the truth is I really liked him and I still do. But he won't ask me out because he thinks I don't like him. Girl, don't make the same mistake I made. Trust me, you will regret it.

Same here
The kid that asked me asked me last year [wasn't cute]. I stood him up because my friends made fun of me. He isn't the most popular person, but he was SO nice and sweet... I feel bad for what I did last year. But definitely go with him and tell your mom he isn't a jerk...and that even though he isn't the hottest guy out there that he is a great guy that will treat you right.

I think your mom is acting more like a child than you are. Why does she care so much about your homecoming date? ... Maybe and hopefully she was only joking with you and made you notice some insecurities you were having...

who cares? i dealt with it!!
I was soo super nervous about my boyfriend/homecoming date meeting my mom, dad, dad's girlfriend and all my friends 'cause I was afraid they would not approve based solely on his looks. But I just started not caring what people thought and I was so much happier. Now if some one says my boyfriend is ugly I'm like ,"He's so nice and funny and great and if you can't see that then your the one missing out!!"

I have the same dilemma but my guy is sweet and nice looking. My friends are the problem. Who cares what they say? As long as he isn't a creep to you! Have fun!
