I am a very secretive person, and also don't like asking or talking about things like that with my mom or anyone about that matter. If I were you I would ask one of my friends or bf to go with me to a free clinic. The people there are really nice. They give you birth control and a free pack of condoms.

    She doesn't HAVE to know.
First, talk to your boyfriend (or whoever in your relationship), and if you're positive you want to get birth control (condoms are a good alternative in case you decide not to), make an appointment with Planned Parenthood. You can google them to find the website.

I know you can get the pill for free from them in California. Have a friend or your guy drive you if you don't want your parents to know about it. If you want your mom to be in the know, catch her when she's relaxed, alone and in a good mood. Bring it up casually but be direct (i.e. "So, I've been thinking about birth control...").

How old are you? Where I live, which is Florida, you can go to the health department or certain clinics that will give you birth control without your parents knowing--as long as you are over 13.

I was in the car with my mom on the way to school when I brought up the subject. I assured my mom right off that I wasn't thinking about having sex, but I wanted to be on birth control because of the benefits. It helps control acne and can make periods less painful, reduce the flow or have them disappear all together. Try telling her about the effects, good and bad, and giving her the options of the different brands that are out there.

I did the same thing. If you've had the sex talk already, she probably said something like, "Come to me with questions," so you can just say, "Well I do have a question, I want birth control." My mom told me to tell her if I wanted it and when I went to the doctor, I asked her if I could get it. She was shocked but she let me do it. Just be honest with her and tell her that you may not need it now, but you want to have it.
