Wow! Tough situation!
Well, I'm a really strong christian, so you might not want to take my advice. I believe that everyone has the right to choose their religion and it isn't my place to tell you what you can and can't believe. However, I think that there are two ways in which you can handle the situation. One, you can remain atheist, in which case I would tell my mom and she should respect the decision. Or two, I would listen to the messages in the sermons at church, and maybe find out more about exactly what Christianity promises you. You never know, you might want to change your mind? But it's your decision!

Same problem here
I'm atheist too. My family (especially my dad's side) are very religious, and I haven't told anyone except my best friends. I'm already an outcast since I'm the only one to like rock music, and I'm afraid they'll think my religious beliefs are based on that. Really, I just got older and made my own desiscion. I'm not sure what to do, but for now I'm not saying anything. I'd wait 'til the time was right...whenever that may be.

Hey...
Just tell her, there's nothing wrong with it. I don't believe in God either. If it's such a big deal to her, compromise. Tell her you'll go to church with her on Christmas or Easter, but that's it. Just so she knows that you still care for her beliefs, but you strongly care about yours. That's what I do with my grandma, only go on Christmas...
