If they are safe
Zoos are totally okay if they treat the animals well and safe. If the animals are living in there waste and have like no fresh food and water that zoo should be closed down. So it all depends on how they are treated.

Endangered species
Those endangered species that would die in the wild because of unscrupulous or unaware hunters are well preserved and studied in the zoos, and their babies are taken a good care of. Take the big Chinese panda for example.

Zoo Baby!
I love animals and zoos give people the oppotunity to see animals they wouldn't ever see in the wild (like you're ever going to see a monkey running around in Alaska!) And even though some people think that it's wrong to cage animals, zoos still do a lot of good.
Take white tlionlions for example, or any albino animal, they simply can't live on their own in the wild becuase their white skin/fur makes them an easy target for predators and they can't sneak up and eat prey because they are always spotted before they can attack. And even though wildlife preserves are great, pixigrl89, they simply aren't very secure. Poaching still happens on wildlife preserves, and in some poor parts of Africa, the starving people have no choice but to hunt the endangered animals (it was in National Geographic a month or two ago, read the article if you don't believe me.)
So maybe life in the zoo isn't perfect, but isn't it better than being dead? Or extinct? And if zoos didn't let the public in, how could they make money to support all those animals? Do you really think most Americans would be willing to shell out the extra taxdollars to completely support zoos that they can't even visit? And besides, modern zoos offer plentiful space and near exact replicas of the animals' natural habitats so they can be more comfortable. Anything less than that would be inhumane and I doubt such a zoo would be running for very long.

as long as it's humane & all the animals are given nice large, natural habitats & plenty of care & are not exploited, I love the zoo!! I like to go on dates to the zoo lol.

It's cruel!
Animals are not ours to eat, exploit,wear,experiment on or for entertainment.
Animal sanctuaries are much better. They are in their natural environment and they are safe. If you must go to a zoo, make sure it is one that is plenty big and with proper care. If they animals are for educational purposes, that is alright too. But zoos are not a good thing if they are not done properly.

It's wrong
It's wrong because animals should not be kept in small cages with strangers looking over them. How would people like it if they were kept in small cages all your life. I know I wouldn't like it.

the zoo and whats in it
i dis it b/c it cages animals and they dont need to be only the 1's that are endangered. they need to be with there type and not have to be stuck in a cage all day while ppl stare and throw things at them!! espically when the little kids or anybody for that matter, tap on the glass to make a fish or a snake to move, it scares them and the older ppl should know better than to do that

I think zoos are for everyone to enjoy especially the scorpians and Tigers. Once you have been to the zoo over 4 times, never go again unless you have children.

Split Between Two Sides
I have to say that I see the pros and cons of keeping animals in zoos, but I think that the bad outweighs the good. Certain zoos do a great job of caring for the animals - making sure that the appropriate housing and nutrition are provided. However, the majority of zoos are hell holes for the animals. Imagine spending your life cooped up in a cage, on display for everyone to see? I've seen some pretty atrocious zoos and animal facilities (in person), and animals truly belong in the wild. Unfortunately, humans are destroying habitat, and in cases where animals NEED to be relocated to a facility - i'll support that. Most of the animals you see in zoos are not rescues, however, but the products of captive breeding. Zoos do a good job of bringing species numbers back up when a species is on the verge of endangerment or extinction, but too many times, the breeding is simply for selfish reasons - not for the good of the animals. I don't know about this - I think there are positives and negatives to zoos...i'll have to think about this one a bit more.

when i was younger i enjoyed it but now im wayy to old. the last time i went was with my baby cousin and that will be the last time. i smells in there and its wrong havin those animals all caged up. put them back where they belong!

seriously, ripping an animal out of its natural habitat and caging it up causes all sorts of harm to the innocent animal--not to mention not all zoos take care of animals, visitors only see what the zoo opperaters WANT them to see. Sure the animals are cute, but is exploiting a living creature for your entertainment morally right? No.

There's good and bad
Taken in account the increasing number of animals in the verge of extintion, and the unsafe conditions animals in the wilderness are faced with (because of human's carelesness in first place), Zoos can be good in order to preserve a species.
But at the same time I consider it cruel to keep animals captive as an exhibition. Yep, that's messed. >_> It depends on the conditions that the animals are put in but in a lot of zoos the conditions are really poor.
My solution: stop excesive, illegal hunting of endangered species.
Not a simple as it sounds, eh?
