stop passing theory off as fact
Evolution can't be taught by itself. That would be passing theory off as fact. People have to be shown a complete picture.

Intelligent Design does not equal Creationism-Duh!
Intelligent design is based on the belief that an intelligent supreme being created the universe. There is nothing stated specifically about God in the Christian sense. Basically, it's just saying there had to be some intelligent force behind the universe-that it did not come from sheer random chance. The being could have been Bhudda, Khali, or Zuess and Hera for all we know. Intelligent design = any supreme being or being(s). Creationism = God, seven days, Garden of Eden, etc. People should really be informed before they get on this topic and start griping about stuf theyknow nothing about. As a Christian, I feel it my duty to tell the girl who made the comment about religion being a "fairy tale" how sorry I feel for her, and how sad her life must be.

umm agree i guess
I dont kno what that is but ok whatever..Love me dont hate me im jus stating my opinion iight Kischa loves all **K.I.S.C.H.A**
--Posted by kischa212678

ehh.
I honestly think they should teach both. I don't know about other schools but you have to take 4 years of science. Biology Freshman year, Chemistry sophomore year. Then after that you get to choose what you want to take from Enviromental Science, Marine Science, Physics, Anatomy and Phisiology. etc. etc. If they want to take "intelligent design" after they're done with their required science classes, let them. I personally wouldn't take it because I believe in evolution. But as long as it doesn't get forced on anyone I don't see what it's hurting.

it has it's place
teach about intelligent design in History class when you are learning about world religion. teach about the scientific theory of evolution in Science class when you are learning about human growth and development. it's not an argument about mixing church and state, it's really only a question of placement. Intelligent design truly is a religious based theory, so put if with the other religions.

I DONT DIG IT...
...but it should be taught BUT not in science lessons as it just isnt scientific! It is a religious belief and should therefore be taught in religious education which is a normal school subject in germany. But it is no real issue here anyway coz most christian teachers of religious education in germany believe in evolution anyway ;-)

At least its theories with proof
besides this "faith" and these "miracles" what do we have to beleive that god is real? all of your life, your whole entire life, could not be real, what they teach you in history, math, science, english, any class. What that all is is what we preceive to be real through passed on knowlage, testing, and everything, everything keep in mind is subject to change if something new happens. people once thought the world was flat, but now we flew out into space and saw it in a different way. we judge by what we see, feel, hear , taste and smell. Do you smell that? yes, i do. That smell is real to me. You see how this ball drops? yes i do. gravity is real to me. you see these fossils of animals from different periods of time and how they all chronologically line up to create a pattern of evolution? yes, i see that, and unless theyre is anything that logicly says that that is not real, then evolution is real to me. Did you know that jesus died for your sins? no i did not, whos jesus and how am i a sinner? you are a sinner in gods eyes. Who is god? oh well, we cant actully show u that, just trust me hes out there... No, i want proof, everyone else has given me proof of what i now beleive in, so why cant you? (Christians are raised to beleive anything without questioning until it conflicts with what they previously beleived. Premartital sex is wrong. why? cuz sex is sacred. why? theres too many whys and not enough answers to support the ideas that god exists.)

haha i put that in the wrong section
sorry

All or None!
If the theory of evolution and crap like that is taught, than something that makes sense should be taught as well. Regardless of your faith, or non-faith. Regardless of your stance on this, just think about it, from a reasonable point of view. Evolution cannot be proven. So why is it taught? Which is easier to believe from a logical point of view? A) *BANG* everything forms... and we descended from monkeys... or B) there is something greater than us out there that created us, the universe, and all that's in it, and set it into perfect motion. Personally, It's easy for me to see the complexity of the world around me. I don't think that an advanced system, so perfectly balanced, could possibly be the result of a burst of energy, or bang, or whatever. Regardless of your point of view though, both options should be presented, or none at all.

they shove evolution down our throats, why not show the other side [in my opinion, the fxcking truth, God exists] and at least upset EVERYONE!
--Posted by kyllr_roxtar21

WELL
Intelligent Design is basically the teaching of how we got here with a more religious background. I believe that if you're going to teach Evolution you should teach Intelligent Design AND Creationism. I'm sick of people being upset about it - why not teach all three? Then no one can be upset.
--Posted by endless__laughter

options
We should be able to have our options! We need to decide between intellegent design and evolution, since neither are solid fact. Besides, evolution says we evolved from monkies! And if that's true, why are there still monkies?

NO
TALKING ABOUT SOME BULLSHIT THING. HOW FUN?
--Posted by snoogie

No!
Intelligent Design is the beginning of introduction of religion to our schools. There is no way to test intelligent design, and it has no place in classes like science. There is a separation of church and state for a reason. It isn?t right to impose religions in class. A teacher?s job is to educate us in the facts. Intelligent design is a religion. It belongs in church. If you must teach it, save it for a religious class. If anyone wants to learn about it, then they should go to a private or religious school. But in public school, we should stick to what science has shown us in places like science class.

umm disagree i guess
lol..my bad
--Posted by kischa212678

It reminds me of the original FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster) letter in which the prophet, Bob Henderson sends a letter to Kansas that says that if they're going to teach Intelligent Design they should also teach FSM. Seriously though, if you're start teaching Intelligent Design soon you'll want Native American teaching and Scientology and what-not. It's too much, if there's a real controversy, don't teach any of them, that simple.

Not in Science Class
I see no reason to teach a religiously based "theory" in a science class. Yes we should learn about different religions and beliefs, but there are more appropriate times than science class. Besides, if Intelligent Design is taught, why not the theory of the FSM?

wtf is that anyways?
I mean they teach evolution in my school (which is catholic) and i think it is a bunch of monkey poo. Stop trying to mix crap with religion. How do you evolve from a monkey anyways? Wouldn't they be still evolving today? Intelligent design just as retarded. There's fate and destiny that's all there is to it.
--Posted by twinkle39

umm no
Religion has no place in school. Not everyone believes the same thing nor should be forced too. Evolution has scientific back up.
--Posted by ohsnapp29

evolution is based on scientific findings...intellegent design is based on an unsubstantiated belief...and NO the bible is not a scientific source. Evolution IS a theory..but so are alot of things taught in science classes. Intellegent design just goes too far into the religious territory. I am agnostic and those who do not believe in an involved God should not be taught that one had a part in the creation of man.
--Posted by insanemadness

Religion should stay in the church. I whole heartedly believe in evolution, mainly because it makes more sense then that God created the Earth in 6 six days.
--Posted by que_x

Hell no
It's one thing if they're talking about it in a world religions class, where the point is to show as many different opinions as possible. But in a science class, you should only use things that have solid proof behind them. There is a great deal of proof for evolution, and no proof for intelligent design and creation (there are holes in the evolution theory but none big enough to completely toss out the idea, just to amend it, and none of these holes offer any proof FOR creationism or intelligent design). Besides, it's unconstitutional since, even though it doesn't promote any one religion over another, it still states that there is some sort of divine being. And even if it's vague, that's still a religious belief and can't be taught as fact in schools.
--Posted by brahmsrules

And another thing...
I'm sick of people who have no understanding of what the idea "theory" means in science! It basically means a fact! In science, something has to have a great deal of unrefutable proof behind it before it even reaches the level of theory! Something can't be a law unless it's plainly obvious, like Newton's laws about gravity. In science, many other things that have reached the level of universal acceptance, like the idea that we are made up of atoms, are also called "theories." So the whole argument that "theory isn't fact" doesn't hold up science. Maybe it does when you're talking about politics or some random idea you came up with in the middle of lunch, but not when it comes to scientific theories.
--Posted by brahmsrules

it is AGAINST THE LAW to have anything having to do with religion mixed in.. this way they keep religion out of it. the class is science, not religion in science or anything like that. teachers usually say that you can believe whatever you want before they start teaching evolution , and thats true .. but they definitely shouldnt force a religion down your throat.
--Posted by crazy_child_148

Rediculous
There is NO EVIDENCE AT ALL that intelligent design is real. I also agree that if intelligent design is taught then they HAVE TO teach ALL other religious (or non) theories of how the universe, life, and everything came to be. Intelligent design is purely just people (I don't think i need to say which religion) trying to impose their opinion on everyone else. I'm non-religious and GOVERNMENT FUNDED programs/schools have NO RIGHT to tell me that a higher power/God created ANYTHING, and they have NO RIGHT to even hint that this higher power/God exists. I find it extremely offensive that they would even consider teaching it.
--Posted by bananabw93

It's a lie
Intelligent design is a pure, outright lie that is made day after day to millions of naive children. Besides, it's all Christian propaganda in my opinion.
