during school i dont have time to read so if i come across a descent book i might pick it up. but who wants to be forced to read during your BREAK? Summer reading should be something done in leasure, maybe instead of choosing books for you they would let you choose one you like and just enjoy it, if its good. tell everyone. if it sucked tell everyone.

i don't find anything wrong w. it
I like it probably b/c our school picks out the best books ever!! they don't have us readin boring books until we get into like the 11th or 12th grade which will probably become boring. but the summer can become boring at times n u just wanna lay n bed n read a book ya kno!?

I don't find anything wrong with it. We have the whole summer and the books they assign us are classics. If we do not read them at some point we will be behind in college, etc. These classics are always alluded to in other books, TV shows, movies etc. It's nice to know what they're talking about. It also expands your vocabulary.

I love reading...........Call me a nerd!
One of my hobbies is that I love to read a good book. Even my family had to tell me to relax my brain after school. I do not mind summer reading recommondation reading books that school recommend because it will help me a lot in English next year and comprehend the books of why it is important in Literature. I have a lot of books on my book shelf at home and I would not mind reading them which I read most of them. However, I also like to read my own books once in a while it goes both ways. Like I said my own peers call me a nerd because I do not care because I would rather known as a brain then a dunce.

Whats wrong with reading???
How stupid are you people? Just because I read doesn't mean I have no life. It means I appreciate literature. Reading also helps to develop a better understanding and use of vocabulary.

C'mon!
What's so wrong about reading in the Summertime? I love to read. It's good to read especially if you're going away for the Summer on a long trip(particularly road trip) you should bring along a good book to read on the long journey to wherever you're going.

I enjoy reading.
Oh dear. I am amazed once again by the stupidity of some people. Enjoying reading does not mean that you don't have a life, it means that you have an appreciation for literature. Reading in the summer is an excellent source of entertainment, besides, no one ever said that reading only was allowed to be done in school.

i love reading
There is such a thing as to much reading and escaping your real mind, but as long as your doing other things and not just reading , why could anyone possibly be against it? reading enhances your learning, your words, and expands the mind. not to many things sound better than laying outside on a warm day, reading a book

I love reading during the summer. I go and play during the day, and read during the evening. It doesn't mean I have no life, it shows that I am willing to educate myself on my own time even when no one is forcing me to. If you can take your education in your own hands, you are more likely to succeed.

Summer Reading
I'm an escapist, and reading is perfect for people like me. Summer just gives us more time to escape.

Depends what you mean...
Now I love to read. Every night I try to read for an hour if possible. I can't a lot but I still get some reading in. During the summer I go through like a book a day. Now if you mean assigned books and projects like I have for honors English i'll be honest it sux. The book itself it never bad (although schools find a way to ruin books a lot) but the essays arghh. Now if you have an assignment to read any 10 books or any 50 books in the summer or something that's fine. I wouldn;t mind that one bit.

YES!!! summer reading is important! everyone should find some time to read during the summer. and any other time of year.

Love Books. Not Requirements.
I understand how schools want us to keep reading even though we're not being tested every day during the summer. But the books they give us are so lame. How do most of them relate to what we're learning in English the following year anyway?! Reading should be enjoyable, not enforced.

im not doin school work when im not even attending

Depends...
I like reading, but in my area they have us read several books over the summer that you don't normally have time to read. I know that sounds ridiculous, but an average person over the summer goes on vacation and may not have enough spare time to read the books required.

Over the Summer?
It's not fair the we are required to read certain books over the summer. Sure we should have to read some books, but we should get to choose what books we want to read. Like last summer I had to red 3 requried books that we had reports due on, and I hated all of them! I can't just sit down and read a book that I hate, and when I do I don't actually read, I just skim though it. Besides different people have diferent reading levels. I don't want to be reading some boreing book over my summer vacation when all i want to do is have fun and take a well deserved break. The worst thing is when they load you up on books when you want to read a different book but you don't have time because you have to finish the one for school first. Me I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and last year when the lastest book came out I wanted to read that insted, so I did, and I never really got around to reading some of the other ones for school.

I love to read, but not stupid crap.
Don't get me wrong. I love reading. But when they make us read boring "classics" that have "good morals and meanings" in them, it bores me. I'd rather read something more interesting that O, Pioneers.

I hate summer reading. I like to read some, but it seems like schools tend to pick out books that are very lenghty and boring...if I have to read thos book, the chances are I won't read book that I want to, because I only have so much time. I guess in someways its good, because they make kids actually accomplish something over the summer, but it should be extra-credit or something like that. I have a social life and am very into sports even though im not good at them. Although some people may enjoy reading, they should do it for their own benifit and fun, and its shouldnt be an out-of-school requirement for those who dont.

Forcin People TO read? its silly
It's just silly, if a person wanna read, she or he will! It's just forcing people.. THat's just silly!
--Posted by deligurl

eh
i love reading... but the summer reading list i got this summer is pretty much the dumbest thing i've ever seen. im gonna fall asleep while i read the books. They should let US choose the books we read over the summer!
--Posted by she_will_be_loved_x3

i cant enjoy reading when i am forced!
how can anyone read when they are forced to read. Another thing is that i would have to be able to choose what i want to read and not what they just give to me. Summer is for having fun and to get together with your friends, not to sit around on your butt and read a book.
--Posted by dare.to.be.yourself

NO WAY!
Dont get me wrong. I love 2 read! I read 11 books over the summer alone. The only reason was because once I got back from the cruise I stayed home every day. Well 4 of these books were summer reading. In our school, you are assigned certain books and you must choose at least 3 of them to read and take tests on. I think that If we are going to be forced to read books over the summer, i think we should be able to pick any book and then write a book report on it. That way it won't feel entirely forced upon you! Can i get an amen to that?
--Posted by kiss_r0ckzilla

No Way
It's called summer vacation for a reason. So why are they assigning us work to do? Most kids either have summer jobs or take classes over the summer. It's not like we're rotting our minds all summer. The least they can do is give us something interesting to read, geez...
--Posted by xopink02258

Reading sucks!
I hate summer reading! I also hate reading with a passion! Well, sure, last summer, I've read Eragon and I hated it! I also read bits of Devil Wears Prada and I also hated it and I'm going to read again! In summer, kids should do what they want to! Period!
--Posted by sfdude2006

Magazines
Oops, I forgot to add "not" between "I'm" and "going" in my last comment! Well, anyway, the only books I'm going to read are the comic books and magazines!
--Posted by sfdude2006

i like reading but...
i love reading actually, and i do raed for fun, even in the summer, but i hate when they assign you books to read, especially extremely boring books that you know you HAVE to read.
