Respect
I like it when schools have very little tolerance, because it teaches you to have more respect for yourself, your peers, your family, your teachers, and everyone else. --Posted by redheadedangel

There are both sides to the zero tolerance......!
I am for it because during my teen years of high school I had my fair share of drama where there kids who would harass me everyday to the point that I almost was about to fight this girl during freshman year. On the other hand, it can still be harsh and teachers and the principal should examine every situation before they start to judge and deem out punishment. However, If the kids who harassed me is not there to get an education then do come to school and waste your time or other students time with your five year old antics and think it is hilarious. --Posted by quirkyrandongurl2
Learn to accept it. --Posted by baybeegurl736
yep.
I went to school in U.A.E. If you piss off a teacher, you get a metal bar on your wrist (or elsewhere). The teachers in U.S are WAY more lenient. --Posted by dr_betruger

Get what they diserve.
I am not a tattle-tale, and I do not "tell-on" people unless the teacher askes what is going on. But I think it is better because when someone is really getting on your nerves, I always wish the teachers would actually take a notice. It feels good to watch the people that were bugging you, filling out a "What Is Harassment?" sheet during recess. --Posted by sweetystar1600

yeah!
i'm for it b/c kids get beat up really bad in my skool --Posted by tuikies

Peace
As long as it doesnt become a racial issue, i agree with it. EVERYONE has a right to feel safe in school. If you don't want to use ur gift of education, then u dont have to be there! --Posted by rosethorn20
I have zero tolerance for other people who have zero tolerance towards other peoples races. Sharpiesniffer, whats your problom??? Black people are the best. --Posted by pinkpanther264

It's STUPID
OKay, some people may say that it prevents many things from happening, now while this may be true in some cases, in others zero tolerance is intoleratble. For example, last November a gurl was EXPELLED for having an advil with her! Now, that is absolutely rediciolous!!! (sp?) Anyway...I think that zero tolerence is repulsive and each sinerio should be carefully examined individually rather than have it fall under zero tolerance. --Posted by lolli107

i used to like it. But mabye it's just my school, but it doesn't work at all. I get called a freak about every other day. Last time someone did a teacher was right there and didn't do a thing. And the "bullys" only try to make u feel bad in groups. They're cowards --Posted by troublemaker014

its too harsh!
this kid from my school got out of school suspension for 45 days, just for being near or watching a kid get beat up in the hallway. What could he have done? If he told them to stop 2 people would have gotten hurt, not just one. The other kids were like twice his size.
My friend in one class, always gets sent to the office or kicked out for talking-even though this other girl is SOOOO annoying and talks/complains/is an attention whore ALL THE TIME!
third, if a kid does something like-stands up to leave a minute before the lunch bell, throws food, pops a bag of chips DURING LUNCH** is it really that bad a thing? At my school, the lunch monitors scream at you, someone i know was made fun of by one, my friend got taken to the office for a shirt that had song lyrics involving switchblades on it-then she got sent back and got yelled at for not putting a sweatshirt on, eventhough the principle said it was fine and he didn't care. If there is a food fight,or LOCKDOWN! noone can leave the cafeteria, windows and doors are all closed, and the "culprit" gates taken to the office by at least 2 people with thier hands behind thier BACK! oh, and if you pop a bag of chips or talk too much, you can get sent to the office too.
shocking gum, t shirts that say violent stuff, talking in lunch, even noise making magnets arent allowed anywhere in school ig even one teacher you dont ever have for a class that hears it before school STARTS, doesnt like it.
There is more stuff like this that happens ALL THE TIME!
shouldnt a school be focused on more important things, like education-uhh we can think still, just give us SOME rights at school, we cant even go oooooooooooooh( like if sumones in trouble) at lunch without some one getting yelled at or sent to the office
IS THIS REALY FAIR? --Posted by neveraskwhy

It should depend on the situation. --Posted by letterbox

.....
I think this is just a little harsh, I know you all want safe schools, but taking away individualism and rights, theres just gotta be another way! --Posted by xtristinex
Zero tolerance of what?
Drugs? I knew a girl who go in trouble for bringing a Midol to school.
Weapons? I guy who brought a toy gun to school on the last day was shot by a police officer.
Viloence? Some people were punished for seeing someone get beaten up.
Zero tolerace should always have aceptions. --Posted by sitca13
Good theory. But i dont think school actually follow through with it. I dunno. Its just that if i had a problem at school i couldnt go to the principal since i have no idea who she is...so i dont really think she knows whats going on if there is an issue --Posted by random_strawberry

It Sucks!!!!!!!
Teachers will put people in detention and suspend them for just about anything. Some kid got in detention for coughing in the lunchroom, because of our dumb principal, who doesn't let us talk while we're in the lunchroom. And to think that two people got in a fight and one of them didn't even get detention and the other one did. They won't even excuse you to go to the bathroom while your having lunch. They should just start banning eating and breathing if they're already that strict. Nobody would want to go to my school. It sucks. --Posted by bloomflower

i think it depends on the situation, and the person.

Punishment should always depend on the situation and severity.
I have seen a lot of kids get in trouble for either things they didn't do or things that didn't deserve punishment. Also, the schools (at least all of the one's I have been to) are teaching us to not stand up for ourselves or defend ourselves. In one lesson teachers told us that if someone is hurting you don't do anything, just run. That is good advice. But then a student asked what if they cornered you and you knew how to defend yourself, maybe from a self defense class or something, to just take it. Even if you know how to save yourself, they told us not to. To just take the beating. --Posted by xloserx

I'll be honest I think zero tolerance is ridiculous. People should not be allowed to get away with doing bad things, but each situation should be carefully examined and consequences tailored to the problem at hand. I also believe it continues bullying. Many are afraid to stand up for themselves because they're worried that if they wind up fighting they'll get suspended. --Posted by noraknittingneedles
no
zero tolerance means zero sense, it does not stop anything all it does is if someone makes a lil problem get suspended and miss school...who do not wanna miss school? but it also gets kids expelled when they shouldnt be. my school had this happen...they expelled a boy because he had matches and they just thought he started the fire at school because of that.. --Posted by decayedmoon

Sometimes it's good
But, when most people think of no tolerance, they think of racists and sexist. Or someone who asks like they have a stick up their butt. The orgin of no tolerance is the trail of tears, slave trade, and the criticsm against christians. Hilter had no tolerance for jews; so he killed thousands of them. It depends on what no tolerance your'e talking about. --Posted by taurarosada
I did a lot of research on ZT for a paper and some of the situations I came across were completely ridiculous. For example, some schools don't allow pictures of guns or weapons because they "promote violence," and there were tons of other examples of ZT being used for bad purposes. I know that there needs to be some discipline in school, but I think that ZT takes it too far. --Posted by karma77
i am in the middle
i say yes and no for ir i mean at my bros school a kid was suspended for a week for spilling juice on the floor even though he cleaned it up by bro was suspended for being late for school not having a pencil or his homework i mean i am in highschool and we dont get suspended for that at his school its the 3-strike your out rule means you do something 3 times your not supposed to they send you home i mean how stupid is that but they again schools should be semi-strict but 3 strikes your out come on --Posted by makaylagreen
ahh....
if it's for protecting the students, then i'm all for it, but i DESPISE it when a teacher labels you as a trouble maker, and then blames you for doing something you haven't done. --Posted by hyper_hyo
