I'm cool with religion in school. --Posted by taurusgurl24

If you go to a school based on a certain religion, say, catholisicm, you should expect to pray. Duh. And everyone has the right to pray in school. Just because they are praying doesn't mean that they are forcing their beleifs on you. It means they are practicing their religion, which is a constitutional right. --Posted by sugarpog

More likely it will be the kids who pray who get picked on if they go to a public school. --Posted by sugarpog

I think that there should be prayer in school. Not everyone has to pray in school, but those of them who want to pray in school should be able to. I mean, every1 has there rite to religion so why not? Heck, if u r not religious, u dont hav to pray but u should not keep others from praying... --Posted by poprocks180

So what
sometimes religon in school is fine. having an after school prayer group (for any religon) is great. As far as in class goes..."Teach it,Don't Preach it!" --Posted by doxiemommie

It's your choice!!!
I always pray and i think it would be great if they had prayer in school. But for those of you who think they'll make you pray...you don't have to! It's not like they'll say, "Pray or you're out of school" and who says it's just a christian thing? you can pray silently to yourself to whatever higher power you believe in. It's not like it's a have to thing...but it'd be better to have prayer in school to strengthen our community and the bond between students. --Posted by guardgirl33ariel

Opinions, Opinions.
Religion is a tough thing to argue because they're isn't a RIGHT and WRONG, there are only opinions and it is easy to offend someone else non intentionally. So, before I start, I want to make it very clear that I do not mean to hurt anyone. I am trying to be as open minded as possible. I don't support the idea of school prayer. It is just as easy to pray at home in your own time, then taking the school's time and the other kid's time who don't want to pray. If you feel the need to pray in the morning than get up an extra two minutes early to designate as your 'prayer time'. Praying in class can also make some students who don't pray uncomfortable. It can even lead to these students feeling they need to pray during that designated time to 'fit in'. If you don't like the idea of praying at home in the morning and for some reason really need to do so at school, take a moment at your locker to pray. Again, I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad here, I just would like you to know some reasons why praying in school isn't the best idea, and give some alternatives. I know where you're coming from, trust me. I have many good friends who are VERY Christian and support praying in school 100%, so I've heard they're opinions. Just think about some alternatives, please. For the students sake and the school's sake. --Posted by nabber005

How come Christianity is always picked on?
I think that you should be allowed to pray in school. WHATEVER RELIGION YOU ARE!!! Lately, I hear you can be a muslim and pray in school and you can be buddist and pray in school, but Christians cannot pray in school most of the times and we're not tryig to impose our religion on anyone. How come you can say "Praise Allah" and nothing happens? But when your a valedvictorian and you try to make a reference to God they shut of the microphone? I think everyone tries to accept everyone and treat everyone the same so much that people that don't even live in the country have more equal rights than we do? --Posted by lil_lady23

prayings cool

Pray in the mornings before you go to school for pete's sake! Is it so hard to not impose your religion upon others? --Posted by lexi_007

I completely agree with d.l._power and rebelgrrl911, it's not fair to make someone who's not your religion go throw that. It only makes you unfair in their eyes which creates more hate. Yes, pray before you go to school. And a note to everyone who says we should all go to church, I'm sure lots of us have but you all saying that I need to sit in a church to talk to God? (If you're not super religious don't cont to read please.) I can do that at home, outside in a tree, I can to that in the car, at birthday party, when I'm crying. If you believe in God then you should know he sees all, knows all, I do NOT need to go to someone to ask to talk to God, why should I? Why can't I talk to God myself? I have gone to church but haven't been in a long time,I actually see no reason to go every Sunday, if you're running to church all the time maybe you're running from something wrong you did, MAYBE. I have faith and God in my life so like I said, why do I need to ask someone to talk to God? Church is good and all, but prayer in school will just create more problems... --Posted by cecet_nekogurl

It's not about not letting people pray, it's about "prayer time"
The issue of school prayer isn't about the right to pray in school. No one is trying to say you can't pray, as long as it isn't interfering with anyone else. The problem is when there's official prayer time, because not everyone belives in God. And to all of you who keep saying our country was founded on Christianity-- no it wasn't. It was on freedom of religion, and in fact, most of the founding fathers were deists, not Christians. --Posted by agnosticagnes
Unfair!
school prayer is completely unfair. im jewish and school prayers marginalize me and a couple hundred other religions. if we prayed for every religion we wouldnt have time to learn and just christian praying discriminates against billions of people. even if it is voluntary non-christian kids will be teased if they dont pray. and so what if the founders were christian? the founders wives wore three billion layers of clothing and that doesnt mean we should. --Posted by mentalbrainiac
Stupid
To each thier own, but if you try to press your religon on me I'll be pissed. Public schools are public for a reason. SO EVRYONE has a right to be there and not have Christianity rubbed in thier faces. --Posted by saritagurl
hell no
i dont pray. period. --Posted by karimoseley
Come on, people
The way i see it is if authority figures keep on forcefully making us do things that *some* of us don't want to do it's just going to make the students rebel even more. It's fine if you go to a Catholic school or something but come on, school's for learning not embracing your faith--you can go to church for that or just pray at home. --Posted by xdickensianx

NOT!!
It's good to pray but some ppl in my school don't believe in God or they muslin or somethin n they gonna think different of us. it's illegal to have public school prayer anyway so i dis it --Posted by londongirl819
Organized religion should be kept out of public schools because they're PUBLIC. If one wants to pray during school, one should be able to. BUT, prayers shouldn't be led in public school. If it's a religious private school, then that's a different story. --Posted by axbesm_starr

ugh noooo
I dont believe in god and woulnt be comfortable praying at school- but there is un upside- less class time, more time to f*ck around yelling 'DEAR SATAN' hahaha --Posted by stereotype_my_noose

praying?in school?
Im not from the U.S.....I have never ever ever prayed in school....EVER! Thats so odd to me....there are so many religons and beliefs- you are never forced to practice a specific religon. I agree if you go to cathlic school that praying is acceptable because it is targeted towards one specific religon. But I guess to i am really not in touvh with my religon..i'm christian and I can;t even tell you one line from the lords prayer and I think i've been to church 10 times if that. But every one should be able to practive their religon their own way. --Posted by happygolucky5

Prayer? I don't think so.
People can pray in school or whatever, just on their own time and don't press others to do it. It's insulting to people of other religions. If public schools did have prayer, than they'd have to cater to more than just Christianity and we'd never get any learning done. Besides, I'm the only Witch in my school to my knowledge, and if schools would take care of other religions, mine would get left out and that's not fair to me or other Wiccans. If you want prayer in school so bad, go to a Christian school. --Posted by xxbloodcountessxx

i agree w/ agnosticagnes.its not about the right to pray in school, its about having an official time to pray, or making people say a certain prayer.even if you say that people who dont want to say the prayer, ur making them stand out and stuff. When our country was founded, women were not aloud to vote and there was slavery and hate.now that we've solved those problems, are we going back in time? Its seperation of church and state. --Posted by amazonstarprincess

A lot of the people on the "dig" side show a great deal of ignorance when it comes to the religious rights of kids in school. Read the Constitution: "Congress shall make no law requiring an establishment of religion NOR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF!" Sorry to kill your argument, but you're allowed to pray on your own. If your school won't let you, take them to court because it's unconstitutional. Stop using that excuse to get people on your side who are totally against the idea of school-mandated prayer, which is the real issue.
Of course school prayer is a bad idea! No argument there. It's clearly against the First Amendment! I understand some of you Bible-thumpers think that all non-Christians are morally twisted and that your religion should be enforced on everyone, and if I were president I would personally see to it that all of you got a chance to live in Iran for a week so you could get a taste of your own medicine. How would you feel if you had to pray to Allah, or Buddha, or Vishnu? Well, that's how it feels for us. There's already enough marginalization in mostly-Christian schools - I've talked with many of my Muslim and Hindu friends about how left out we feel, even in public schools, where there are mostly Christians: kids flaunt their religious beliefs, many try to convert you to Christianity, the Christian club is the most popular one in school. It's easy to feel left out and backward, but NO ONE should feel that way about religion because it's an extremely personal decision, and what religion is right for you is different for every person. Our Founding Fathers worked so hard to achieve religious freedom, and don't bring out that ridiculous argument that this country was founded on religion because of the Puritans (who, might I remind you, also burned people at the stake for being "witches") because the people who set up our government, mostly were atheists, agnos --Posted by lucyinthesky490

It cut off my argument - here's the rest...
agnostics and deists, and even the religious ones cite as their influences the governments of ancient Greece and Rome, the Iroquois Confederation, and the ideas of European philosophers such as Locke and Rousseau as the influence on our laws, not the Bible. James Madison himself (who wrote our Bill of Rights and was the primary leader of the Constitutional Convention) said that the tyranny of the majority should never usurp the individual rights of the minority, which is what is happening if Christian prayer is implemented in schools. He also said the security for political rights should be the same as for religious rights. Sorry, Christians, but your Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Wiccan, and atheist countrymen are equal citizens, and your God has no more precendence in this country than theirs (or their Goddess, many gods, or lack of one). Think about it this way: if all religions are equal, who is to say that the Christian prayer will be the one in schools? Hmmm? --Posted by lucyinthesky490
