i wish i could be home schooled
i really want to be home schooled because i think that i could get a much better education with one on one taeching and less distractions. the only reason why i am not home schooled is that my mom has a limited education and does not feel confident enough in her abilties to home school me. you guys are so lucky! --Posted by dramaqueen1817

Ya you dont get to see your friends all day but you dont go to school for that do you???????? --Posted by redhotthottie23

Studies Show...
There've been studies done that show that homeschool children not only do better in school and the buisness world but also have better social skills. They are able to interact well with all ages unlike they're public schooled counterparts who only interact well with children their age.

Homeschooling
If you guys are talking about the many different types of homeschooling, than I "dig it". I'm homeschooled. But it's not the kind with a curriculum or any textbooks. Basically, it's also a form of self-directed learing. I like it because it gives me the freedom of learning what I want, when I want. I'm not as stressed out anymore, from hours and hours of homework, that shouldn't even be given out in the first place. This kind of homeschool seem radical and many people are opposed to it. But studies have shown that this kind also called unschooling, the children and people that are doing it, are seen as much more mature than the schooled children and they are also shown to not get in as many fights or rows with other children. So yes, this is a good way to go, and get your life back. --Posted by pineskikwe

"The Teenage Liberation Handbook" goes into alot of this if you're interested but...
Homeschooled kids generally aren't socially deprived. There are a few exceptions of course but think about it. Did you meet all your friends in school? Do you even get to talk to your friends in school except for maybe at lunchtime? School isn't supposed to be a social thing. Isn't it supposed to help you learn? There are by the way other places to meet people. Church, camp, soccer, ballet, plays, etc.
Traditional public and private schools train kids to do what they're told, where to go and when, god forbid you actually think for yourself, and oh yeah the number of friends you have on Myspace is the most important thing. Good lesson right?
Colleges are more interested in homeschooled kids because they're actually interested in learning things vs. passively accepting information just to get an A on the test. --Posted by dontburstmybubble

I'm home educated
I'm home educated and from the UK, I beleive its a little different over here than in the US? Baisically my education was pretty mutch autonomous, I've never had any tutors - though when i got to GCSE age (GCSEs are uk qualifications taken from about 15 to 16)my mum helped me with the correspondance course and I got an A and an A* in my first two. I am doing to more this year. I have plenty of friends and go to parties and all the usual stuff like other kids, apart from most of my friends are home educated too. Though I have never been to school so i can't compare campletely, it seems that there is no bullying between home educated people whereas there appears to be bullying in most schools I know of. Baisically, I love being home educated! Its like being on a constant holiday, and I can learn what I want, when I want. --Posted by istolethecookie
I'm homeschooled.
I've been to public school, private school, and homeschool. Out of those three, I would say homeschool is my favorite. You get to do ALL of your school work in the comfort of your home and you don't have to deal with peer pressure. --Posted by lonelygurlvenn

I was homeschooled my last two years of highschool. I wasn't socially deprived at all. I went out all the time with my friends. I was able to finish two years in one year.. I was able to move at my own pace.. travel.. and work! Work was a class.. it was great for me! --Posted by blondest_brunette

Im homeschooled
Im homeschooled.I've been homeschooled for at least ten years now.Its not bad,it only takes me three hours to do my work then I got the rest of the day t do what ever.I dont have to worry abuot being bullyed or anything. You still can go to collage and do whatever you fell like.It keeps our mind strait. --Posted by flessy-91
I think if you want you're children to get the proper eduacation that you think they deserve then you should home school them since teachers can very rarely give students one on one lessons. I won't home school my kids but thats because i don't have much patients and i'd like the time that they're at school for myself or whatever. The reason people dislike home schooling is because they think that the kids won't get socialized but there are other places to get socialized then at school, like scouts and other activities. --Posted by asrai_thewaterfaerie

Not real education
I can't see how you can learn as much when you're with just your parents. Especially in high school, when you're trying to really learn a lot about a few certain subjects in order to prepare for certain careers, you should have teachers who really know the subject. Your parents might be able to give you this experience with one subject, if that, but how can one or two teachers teaching everything add up to a rewarding high school experience? There's so much you miss out on - sports, music, class discussions, clubs - that you can only get in a traditional school setting. And I've known people to "cheat" the homeschooling system; when I was in the Geography Bee in middle school, a lot of kids who were homeschooled did really well because all they studied was geography for a month or so before the competition. Is that really learning? I don't think so. In addition, part of what makes high school so rewarding is the diversity - ethnic, religious, and just diversity of interests and types of people. You learn much more when you're around different types of people; I know from experience going from an ordinary public middle school to an international high school. You're not getting a really well-rounded education if you're homeschooled, no matter how you look at it. --Posted by lucyinthesky490

Reply to "digs" by public school students
I see a lot of people on the left who are public school students who seem to think they'd get a better education if they're homeschooled. Think about why you might not know what you need to know - probably because the teacher doesn't know enough about it? Think about it if you had one or two teachers teaching five or more subjects. Do you really think that would prepare you well for college? I don't think so. My mom, who is a teacher, thinks the problem with most public schools is the teachers are qualified to teach too many subjects, and this denies them the education needed to teach ANY of these well at the high school level. Teachers should have concentrations in one or two subjects. Trust me, "one on one time" with the teacher only goes so far. Do you think your parents could accurately prepare you for college in math, science, social studies, English, AND a foreign language? It's impossible. Sure, homeschoolers have to meet yearly standards, but how many public schools do you know that meet similar "yearly standards" and still don't do a good job of educating their students? I know a lot. If we truly want to leave no child behind, homeschooling (in high school, at the very least) should be made illegal. --Posted by lucyinthesky490

POOR KIDS
all i have to say is dat kids hu r home skooled will never noe how it feels to b a normal child in a normal world WIT OTHER CHILDREN LIKE DEM dats sad yo --Posted by lexxie_05

people who are home schooled miss out on so much.
what about all the things kids and teenagers experience through school?
also, when kids are home schooled, their parents often teach according to what THEY believe in.
how can someone grow up normally if they were home schooled?
how much of a chance do they have to go to college or university?
what about making friends and dating?
I disagree with home schooling completely.
end of story.

I happen to know someone who is home schooled
My cousin is homeschooled and I think it the worst thing in the world. My aunt works almost everyday and my cousin almost never gets a good education, it took her till 4th Grade to start reading and doing basic MATH! you learn that in like kindergarten for crying out loud, also almost all her friends are like 5,6,7 year olds, SHES turning 10 in like 6 months! Now i think its okay to have a couple friends that are younger, but not a whole bunch! She'll never go to her first real dance in middle school, a real field trip, my whole family thinks that she should really get a education at a school. My 10 year cousin cant even speak right, she cant say simple words like the number 3 and a whole bunch of other stuff. Shes still on a like 1st-2nd grade reading level!Home Schooling doesnt help a kid well now does it? --Posted by candygirl200413
