SC rocks!!! (cos i was in it)
i was in SC and that was such fun! in my school, the former SC members have to choose the next SC members every year and i was elected..., twice! now i'm not SC nemore cos i'm senior now

Leadership skills, you're more assertive, gain respect actually, make friends, it's cool to be on it, y'know? A lot of hard work... but it can be fun...

I'm currently in d school student council. In our school, teachers take d student council v. sriously. It may b a little of a popularity contest, but actually an elected member gets to do a lot of stuff, like talks during assemblies, go 2 meetings, give tours to visitors at school and so on. It's not easy at times, but i simply love it! Teachers listen 2 u and respect ur opinions more.

We don't vote in ours at school. So, its made up of people that actually want to be there and have good ideas (like moi!). We made a school slogan and did a cool fundraiser for the school selling chocolate!

Been in SC for two yrs
elected 2 yrs straight. and it does go based on popularity in most schools, (mine) we didnt do much at all tho. But it was fun coming up wit awesome stuff for our school, like free milkshakes and stuff. Its not that bad at all. Itz kinda unique.

It's real fun to be in it and it's good to be involved with your school. If, your'e not in a sport or something. School would be really boring, if it was just homework, projects, essays, and paying attention to a boring teacher. That'ss why we have school sports and clubs. Only people with no life just do homework.

..contd..of my other thought. ur attitude toward the council matters 100% too.. omg if i was too say it wasnt stressful, id be joking......i stress out everyday, in reality, ppl dont usually end up doing what they r supposed to.. but that happens, u gotta keep a positive attitude bout it, and think in other persons shoes...maybe u dont do everything all the time either? u cant always put the blame on others. sc failue is a result of a bad attitude joining council at the beginning.

Right now Im student council primeminster at mah highschool..in grade 12. It really all depends on the leader i guess of the Student Council. I was Publicity Minister last year, in charge of avdertising spirit nites, events, etc...and i mean it was fun, but very poor organization.. people in cliques..council seemed so seperated. Though this year, every event we have done has been very successful..not that im saying it was all me, i mean cuz it wasnt...its really the group of people you work with, that can make it happen. my team is awesome, of corse, we have a few slackers, but for most part we all work really hard and communicate well. which really makes or breaks.and shapes how your student council experience is. mine has been great...i look foward to the rest of the year.

what i hate about what all the people in the "dis" side are saying is that its always the "preps" and "popular" kids who are on it ..and then they complain about it...well if you have a problem with the fact that all student council kids are "preps" then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! dont sit on your ass and complain!

Important to School
I joined Student Assembly at my school as soon as I had the chance. Granted it is a popularity contest to SOME extinct, I mean how do you think anyone will vote for you if they don't know who you are??? But, when I came to my school I just asked people to vote for me and they were totally cool about it. Student Assembly is responsible for all the school dance, events, and assemblys. So don't hate it b/c without it school would be sooo much LAMER!

It is cool...we get to make floats and do a presentation for homecoming and student council heads it all...it is mad fun and it really brings the school together

You do all that trouble and sometimes those photos really do turn spetatcular, but with alot of work! You pick out and try on all those outfits that end up clashing with you and it'a just too much work! They don't represent who you really are inside.

Its kinda over-rated and useless
Most likley, whoever runs and is most likely so-called "popular" wins. But at my school, the class-president stuff hasn't even put their best effort to even help out and change rules at the school. They just don't even do anything, all they have is the recognition of being class-president. We don't even have school dances, which is most definatly pathetic.

Whether anyone admits it or not, Student Council is one big popularity contest!!!!!! The popular people always run and they always win. $5 says none of them even care about what happens in school, they just want the position to be recognized. That was the situation this year in my school's elections. I predicted that all the officers would be popular 7th or 8th graders and I was right!

I think it is a big popularity contest. If you arnt popular your not on it. Also have the people on it fail out of it. They also see if they have 65s or up they go to there teacher and tell them they should change the grade because of it and then act like they earn the grade themself.

what they say...it's all true...
I've been in Student Council for two years & I was all ready to dig this one until I read the disses & started to agree. Our SC funtions pretty good & keeps things running & it's raised money & helped the community but...
-Everyone helps out with the easy, cool stuff & no one does anything that involves time & effort
-People used to skip meetings and activities all the time (now they can get impeached if they don't have a good reason)
-No one has any really original ideas; we just do what was done last year with a different theme
-etc
If our SC could be divided into parties (that'd be so sweet, just to try) there'd probably be the WOPPPOC (Well-Off, Popular, Preppy, Pre-Occupied Conformists) Party (majority) and the EBE (Every Body Else) Party (minority). When election time comes around, oh how the EBEs want to get someone in to do their job and represent them, but in scarcely happens.
(PS, I'm more of an EBE-I sort of slid my way in when I was a Freshman because everyone else was to shy to run or something, and I got re-elected because I actually did my job and I was an incumbant. Take that WOPPPOCs!)

im in 8th grade and the president and vice president...all they really do is like morning announcements but i cant be to hard on them because last year they did bring jamba juice and in n out to school..Mostly the teachers do all the work though and this year the only reason this guy got picked was because of popularity. I hate this kid though so i totally picked the girl bcause she would have been way better but w/e its over.

Oh my gosh!
I didn't not like Student Council one bit when I was in High School! At my school it was Stugo (Student Government). There was this one girl who was in Stugo that I could not stand. When there was a big election or when homecoming was going on, I had to practically jump in the way of a Stugo member to get them to acknowledge my presence. I wanted to be into all the stuff that was going on at school, but Stugo never seemed to want me to! I was at a football game and I went to the bathroom and this girl that I recognized as being in Stugo asked me, "Are you from the other team?" Like I wasn't allowed to be in the bathroom, I turned around and looked at her and I had a North High T-shirt on and she's like, "Oh yeah, I've seen you before!" Grrrrrrrrrr!
