.....man this is a hard one
Well i guess i under stand why they have them but, their still a pain in the @$$. --Posted by hayday91
No problem with them
I don't think that test scores are as important as everyone thinks they are. Sure, they matter, but so do your GPA, which high school you go to, which classes you are taking, and your extracurriculars, all of which can make up for a low test score. Personally, I'm fine with them because I've always done well on them - and I'm going to have to get used to the fact that music schools don't care jackshit about them! --Posted by lucyinthesky490
They serve a purpose
I think there should be some sort of standard on which people's achievement should be measured, I think, because some schools are better than others, as are some classes, and grades alone don't prove anything. I go to an IB school, one of the top high schools in America, and I have a lower GPA than some of my friends at ordinary high schools but that's because I'm taking harder classes which require more work, not because I'm actually a worse student than they are. And you can't get "100" on any test because they're measured in PERCENTILES, not percents (there's a big difference), which means not how many answers you got right but how many people you scored higher than. Scoring on the 100th percentile is impossible because it would mean scoring above 100% of people who took the test, which would mean scoring higher than yourself. The 99th percentile is the highest you can go and it's basically the equivalent of 100%. --Posted by lucyinthesky490

Ever heard the expression, "culling the wheat from the chaff?" --Posted by scampisizedpoet
ok?
There ok i mean you have to take them some time... cause every one wants to know how smart they are right????? --Posted by purpose38
Eh...
You have to take tests anyway. I'd rather take a test that everyone gets so it's fairer. --Posted by mrsfelton
Not bothered really!
I dont mind tests cos it shows you how much you've improved and it rewards you for all the work you've put in revising and stuff.
I dont like revising but at least before a big test teachers dont give you h/w they just say "Try and revise, class!" --Posted by lucyjuce27
hhmm ok i guess
i hate taking any kids of tests period but i always ace them --Posted by I_am_blessed819
duh
you need standardized tests to put everyone on the same scale. without them, then people who went to a school where they were marked easier will do better than people who are smarter but were marked harder. in canada diplomas (standardized tests) are worth 50% of your final mark to maike sure everyones marked equally. its a great idea. --Posted by over_babe

Standardized Test
I dig standardized test. How else are you soposed to find out how smart you are? --Posted by bhsmarchingband

Kind of needed
I think there needs to be a way to compare students to the mean. If kids aren't doing well, then steps can be taken to help that student do better. Some HS kids choose not to graduate b/c they don't wanna take a final standardized test. I think, why would you want to go to school for 4 years and have nothing to show for it? To boycot a standardized test only screws yourself. You can't go to college, and its harder to get a low-wage job. --Posted by rosethorn20

I love standardized test
They are so predictible!!!! How do you not ace one???? There long and boring but you dont have homework and .. In Missouri they don't say if you can pass or not so i dont know where your from but here they dont have a point and it's really easy to pass notes during them and wen we take them they let us sleep so .. it's all good... --Posted by britelite2009

tests blow --Posted by archiez

N. Carolina EOGs SUCK!!
I live in North Carolina, and here they are RIGGED so that you can't get a 100%. I would prefer turning in portfolios or records or something like that because they show how you improved. In North cArolina, if you get nervous on testing days or math and reading aren't your storng points, and mess up, YOU'RE SCREWED. You have to take summer school, or in my school's case, have a summer packet (which are 90-quesstion packets that we get because my school opened back in 2002 and we can't afford summer school yet). Then if you bomb that, you can't move up. Lilvballgirl has a point too- all our lives teachers tell us to be individuals, but then we are FORCED to take the same test as everyone else, and if we show certain amounts of "growth" (aka improvement over the school year) then we've done well, by the standards of a bunch of stupid old farts who don't even know us. If your state has standardized testing, THEY DO NOIT CARE ABOUT STUDENTS AT ALL!!!!! --Posted by voldiebutt2

I think they allow some teachers to "cop out" by only teaching material that's on the test, not what you really need to know. I also know people, like my mom, who just don't test well. I feel like there's way too much emphasis placed on the test and not enough emphasis on learning. That being said, I have to admit that the concept is valid, in that the grade is no longer subjective. I've had teachers give my work a lower grade because they felt "I could do better" even though other people did the same amount of work and got A's. Also, thanks to standardized tests I have two scholarships to college that cover most of my expenses, so I can't hate them totally. --Posted by greenewok

Thank God I'm a Senior
Since I'm a senior we don't have to do those tests anymore but when I did have to, I didn't like them. It wasn't the tests that really bothered me, it was just the lack of production afterwards. We would just sit there in our homeroom with nothing to do but sleep or read whatever you brought. --Posted by causelovehurts

i gottwo syllables for ya SUCK-Y

Unfair
we just took a 9 weeks test that was given early and so some of the material we hadn't even learned yet. It counted for 20 percent of our final grades on report cards. --Posted by lalalioness

.
Ughh, I hate 'em. --Posted by xx2tru_eliza3xx

Booo!!
I hate them. they suck, they are long, and they are just annoying. You get them every year where i live. and i just hate it. You think being a Junior in HS your year would go better w/o them. But noo this little announcement comes up saying how we have to take a standardized test. Yippe!~ not. --Posted by whateverworld

Heartbreaking
I live in Louisiana and we have to take 4 standardized tests to graduate. Most people I know haven't passed and won't be graduating with their class or even get a high school diploma. It's so sad to see everyone so upset when they get their scores in and realize that they can't follow their dreams because they can't graduate from high school. --Posted by britt711

no
I think that it should be based more on what you get throughout the semester not 1 test. but i dont live in an area of sats lol haha i dont have to take them --Posted by keira1718
Ewww
Tests totally blow. You take the same tests over and over and over again since you start school. They prove absoulutly nothing. --Posted by dory666

i hate them, they stress everyone out. --Posted by amazingpinay
I dont like standardized test
they are way easy and you can make a mistake so easily.if you fail it, youre in summer school or left behind. it could be you failed because you bubbled in the wrong letters you intended to or that you were nervous. its sad how its grades not people that count in the board of ed system. its too life changing. --Posted by frenchfriluver
