why shouldn't there be a ceremony for people who actually put effort into their work??

Why not award people who won?
I think in schools that school awad ceremonies are good. I mean what would piss you off more: seeing a good kid who worked hard get an award, or a dumb shit kid who doesn't care about school get an award? I think that award ceremonies are great and if you feel so bad that you didn't get an award than maybe you should try harder next time. Big Deal!!! I hate people saying it's not fair everybody should get an award. UMMMMMM no they shouldn't!!!!!! The only people that say everyone should get an award are the sorry ass losers who didn't try at all and hate seeing people get awarded for their acheivmetns. If you got first you get a first place trophy and so on. If you got last than boo-hoo you don't get a trophy. The person who got first is obviously better than you at that sport and exercised and ate right. So i think SCHOOLS AWARD CEREMONIES ARE AWESOMMEEEEEEEEE!!

My first year in middle school and i got 2 medals!!!!!! And the school staff doesn't just tell everyone their is an award ceremony. they let the kids invite their friends and some kids deserve awards cuz they worked hard the whole year!

Well I say why not? I mean, most award ceremonies are only for those who've won an award! Like Honor's night, or graduation. I doubt that people just randomly go to award ceremonies for the fun of it, unless you're getting an award =S.

People should be recognized for their achievments even though it is just a piece of paper. I beleive that it is a very good incentive. Maybe, people who don't like them don't ever recieve an award. It is not like you have to make a speech so why be shy? :)

There actually quite interesting and significant if your going to pursue an award later in life. You feel inspired by the people who gained an award and later gain more confidence in yourself because of there achievement.

I love school recognition assemblies! I think it's great for kids that work hard all year to be recognized and it pushes the kids that didn't do so well to try harder so they will receive an award. I don't know, maybe I also like them a lot because I'm usually the one being recognized... :)

If you put in all this work during the year on h/w or sports or in tests its nice tto know that people recognise that!
A lot of people say they dont like award ceromonys but thats only bcos they no they havent tried hard enough to get one!

if you work hard and do well, you should get recognized for it and thats that. boohoo if you slacked off and feel left out - in the real world if you do well, you get promoted so just get used to it!

And the top student is...
I love these things. Mostly because I keep my grades up to A's all year long and these award ceremonies are my chance to shine. It shows everyone that I worked my butt off all year long and this is my award. I also like to see who else had a great academic year. I know, I know, I'm a nerd. lolz

could be improved
If you do something good, you deserved to be recognized. However, some awards are popularity contests, like "most outgoing student". I think quiet kids are often yoo overlooked as candidates.

its bad if you dont get anything
its the worst feeling in the world to see everyone around you win something and theres that one person who didnt. i think they should be optional and more or less for the people who won something major and their families. who wants to listen to some teacher yap for like 20 minutes-no one listens afer like the first 3 sentences.

Half of the people in the awards ceremonie are preps. I dont know why we have to go and listen to a bunch of crap for about 2 and a half hours and what is it doing for us? Nothing, just wasting our time. Yes some people do derseve it and others dont, they are just getting an award cause they are the teachers pet and all that crap.

ok at my grade 8 grad they did awards and this japanese girl who was learning her 2nd lanuage got like 5 awards that night! even tho im not the best student and im not very good at skool it centers out all the ppl who tried there hardest but just wasnt good enough

I think they are so boring you have to sit there for like ever and it gets boring and annoying when the person behind keeps getting a freakin award. I think they are boring i just perfur they call the people down to the office to get all of their awards plus it is kind of embarrasing walking up there for somthing stupid like the sci fair award or somthin.

You get to see the list of students that are better than you. Then you get an award for your semi-good grades when you know you could have done better.

Its good to get awards but they are just sooooooooooooooooooo B-O-R-I-N-G especially the big one at the end of the year. And for me its like name called walk all the way up there go back get called again come back sit down get called AGAIN.......ect. (im not braggin or anything)

It can go both ways....
I love getting awards because I am proud of my achievements. But award cerimonies put so much pressure on you, like if you are a straight A student and you get B honor role its out there for the whole school to see that you didn't do as good as you usually do in school that year.

What a waste of time
You sit there for like two hours, waiting until they call your name so you can stand at the front for half a second to get a piece of paper you could easily print out yourself... haha.
