yes ma'am
sure, there's the separation of church and state, and yes, the pledge says "under god" but don't 99% of religions have A GOD? no where in the pledge does it say "under jesus" or anything about a specific god, i'm sure it originaly meant the christian god, but use your imagination if you're not christian and say it's your god, or if you don't belive in god for some stupid reason, skip those two little words, i'm sure, is it going to kill you? --Posted by daisyduke01

It took time, but i love God and my counrty.
It takes time to get to know God. I've been taught since i was a baby God is the creator of heaven and earth and all who inhabit it. Some people instantly click to a religion but it took time for me. At about nine ys. old i started exploring diffrent things. But in the end God was the one for me,it turns out he always has been. I am a Christian ging to a Christian(Luthran) school and i enjoy my life as much as i can. Because thats all you can do. God takes care of the rest. So i dont know about everybody else but i like the plege the way it is. ^_^ --Posted by writing_goddess

ok first of all everybody its a show of patriotism and if some of you dont have anything better to do than pick it apart to find the under god part and want it out than you literally are a seriously dull person and id tell you to get a life except i think youre hopeless second of all i want to warn you not to get to into it and everything i mean you seriously will not die if you forget to say it one morning. i have a teacher who does that. every morning he says, students please stand for the pledge of allegiance the flag is in the usual location on the north side of the room. i mean come on! --Posted by blondie13girl

who cares?
those people who dont like the "under god" line, well they dont really have to say it,nobody's forcing them to. ive seen news stories and people were rallying at the capitol building and protesting about it.
thats just stupid. --Posted by bookworm_95

america..
either live here and deal with what religion this wonderful country was founded on.. and have the freedom we give you ..or go live somewhere else where not only are they going to make you sing a song with the word "god" in it (if you don't have a god in your religion) ..but they will also KILL you if you don't sing it.. or if they find out that you are not really the religion you pretend to be. it's your choice. --Posted by beeb08
dig it but it is a choice
Yeah, I like to say it, but I am strong in my religion and I am proud of my country and how far its come since its start. My school doesn't make it manditory, we don't get in trouble if you don't say it or even stand, but they give a choice to the students that want to. It's all about your own choice, thats why I think it's good that they allow it. --Posted by dare_colt

both
i think that ppl should have atleast more respect for it. and that the teachers should talk to students about it, cause i think that it IS important. but its also what the students belive in. its not even that long...
i pledge aligence
to the flag
of the united states of america
and to its republic
for which it stands
one nation
under god, indivisable
and liberty & justice for all. --Posted by anaheim_california
its respectful
we say the pledge every morning. people dont have to say it and put their hand over their heart: they only have to stand up. for people who have moved here from another counrty: you are in america now. atleast stand up. i think saying the pledge shows respect t the country. (even tho i dont care either way: but it does bother me when people complain about it; i mean u live in america) --Posted by flypride1
Under GOD
People! The pledge was written a LOOONG time ago, where Christianity waa the BIG religion. So for those who are upset about saying, "Under God", then get a note from yer parents saying you have their permission not to say the pledge! OR you can just not say the "Under God" part. It's not that big of a deal! WELCOME TO AMERICA. --Posted by sandalpanda

One Nation Under God
I don't see what's wrong with the pledge. What, you got a problem with "under God"? It's being honest, because we are "one nation under God". --Posted by kenny_chesney_lover
yea..
its a symbol or patriatism
people fought for this country and i think we should atleast say something to let them know we appreciate it

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." that's right i said GOD. I mean that one little word isn't going to come out and bite you. who said you have to say it anyway it's not like the law requires you to say the pledge. you can change god to satan for all i care. it's not "under jesus" or "under Allah" or "under Yahweh" or any other specific god. one word isn't going to kill you. Besides approximatly 97% of the pledge is free from the word "god". who thought ppl would get so worked up about one word. it's only 3, that's right, count them 1-2-3 letters. do you think that someday someone will get pissed if you say dog or cat or two or ten? doubt it. --Posted by doxiemommie

Why Not??
Okay in like first through fourth we always said the Pledge of Allegiance at school and there was nothing wrong with it then so what is the big deal now. It says UNDER GOD not under a certain set god who everyone has to believe. The term god could be any god that any religion believes in. why should we change or not be allowed to say something just because 10% of the population in the United States diagrees with it. There are a lot of things that 10% of the population disagree with but we don't have to change evrything to make everyone agree. IT WON'T WORK! --Posted by eolhc1991

Seriously Folks....
What is wrong with the pledge? The actual words have long since lost all of their symbolic meaning, so there really isn't any spiritual meaning to the pledge (Unless of course, you are a Jehovah Witness, in which case, you really can't pledge to anyone or anything except god). It has become a patriotic thing, (if you really are against the saying God thing then just omit that part). And seriously folks, if you aren't a patriot and you don't like your country...... Then why are you here? --Posted by missmishmash

Only if....
I believe that if your like me and believe in a god you should say it, but if you don't believe in it you should have the right to not say it.
You should never be forced to do anything. --Posted by cheers_4u_and_tink

Choice
i think it should be choice. Most people are just brainwashed and dont even care what they're saying. If the dont teach religion in school wy do we say a pledge that says "under god"? but if we dont say it we get detention! Thats so unfair! --Posted by lilababe3
Middle East
i am from Sadia Arabia which is taking some real shyt from the U.S i moved hear last year but at skool i was asked why i did not pledge earlier i told them i am not from the U.S only country i am giong to thank is Sadia Arabia the middle east would not be what it is today with out the U.S(bombings, terrosim) --Posted by skaterangel89
there isnt 'liberty and justice for all'
i totally dont say the pledge anymore. i did when i was in elementary school when i didnt really know wut it meant and i didnt give a shit but now after i see whats happening in america today i know that there realli isnt "liberty and justice for all". but im not a bitch about it i still stand up i just dont say it or put my hand over my heart or whatever. --Posted by crazysexycool92

the point??
uhh do u really think when ur saying that that everyone is really meaning it or do u think ppl are just trying to get the sh*tty thign over with> i know i am..i dont even understand half of it..i dont care...i mean this country is SOO f*cked up these days..ever since bush came --Posted by popularitysucks

It is pointless
I lived in america for all my life but the pledge of allegiance is stupid. Half the crap we say we don't mean so pardon my french but what is the ***ing point. I didn't say it last year because our teacher forgot but now my teacher forces us. Half my class says it just so we can sit down. So in conclusion i say the pledge of allegiance is dumb espically to an African American. What freaking justice go we have? --Posted by africanquenn12
Just one letter...
My uncle says that it could be fixed by adding one letter...and changing "under god" to "under gods" --Posted by minimoose
i dont like it --Posted by karimoseley
A Matter of Choice?
It seems a little fascist to me, i mean, rows of students standing up and following a routine when directed and robotically reciting the words to something that's been seared into their minds without having been properly explained or understood. It's noble to be patriotic and loyal but at the same time no one should force you to say something you don't beleive in saying, regardless of your motives. --Posted by xdickensianx
Im not even american!!
Most of the people in my school arent american. I don't pledge and i'm completely proud of it. I'm french and its not just that, but people shouldnt have to say "I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the united states of america" when they really dont mean it. And "under god" is completely inappropriate. I respect that some want to do it, and that it is a tradition but we shouldn't let it take over a country full of different races, cultures, and religions. --Posted by kikkassxoxo13

time for a history a lesson, the pledge of allegiance was orginally a song written by a boy scouts troop to sing at the white house. after a short time it was re-written and made shorter, none of these two versions included "under god". than during the 1950's communist scare it was once again revised to include "under god" because they felt the communists would not say it thus making it easier to find and arrest them. i don't want to lie when i say the pledge the allegiance because if i'm lying than it looses it's value. also 99% of religions do not have god. in all diffrent religions there is a higher power but not a "god" some religions have a goddess, allah, buddhism doesn't believe in god, unitarian universalists, some religions dont believe in one god. so please before you say something like that think about how close to your heart you hold your religion, now would you want to say every day that you believe something else? --Posted by hungrykittie
liberty and justice for all?
I dont say the pledge of allegience because I dont believe that there is libery and justice for all. Actually i know that there isnt. If there was liberty and justice for all there wouldnt be discrimination in the workplace..housing discrimination or discrimination period. I dont really care about the under god part. But i think that you shouldnt have to stand if you dont want to and I dont. But some of my teachers do make me stand out of "respect for the country" but i dont have to say it. so whateverr --Posted by crazysexycool92
w.e its sensless to stop in the hallways for that
i hate it. i be sayin curses inbetween it. i be like" i pledge allegiance to my ass " teheeheee i dont care either.I wanna go to canada.america got its issues. --Posted by frenchfriluver

I've never liked having to stand or, earlier in school, say the pledge. Last year I finally decided I couldn't stand it though and told my homeroom teacher I wouldn't stand for the pledge anymore. She actually argued with me saying that I had to stand but I didn't have to say it. That year and this one teachers and other people in the class pester me and anyone else who doesn't stand and even yelled at one of my friends for standing while still writing on her homework. It should really just be taken out of schools. --Posted by daisy17
Im not from america im from Ireland so Ive actually never done it or anything but from what I hear about it the whole thing sounds totally stupid to me --Posted by emmalouise_o_l

I refuse to pledge at school
cuz why should i pledge allegiance to a country that kills innocent people in the middle east. people ahve seen those videos in which troops are killing or beating innocent men. thats not ***ing right. so i refuse to pledge to a flag of a country where they exploit countries, use other countries men for their army, and use blood for oil
