I love swimming, I really love it, and I think public pools can be a real nice thing for those people who don't have a private pool. If they want to have fun swimming with their friends, they can do it at the public pool!

Depends on the pool
I think it is nice to have somewhere for people to swim...but I am a competitive swimmer so I am picky. My idea of a public pool is a pool with lanes where I can go and work out. Recreational pools I am not that into. They are way too crowded for me, and I don't really like swimming wondering if I'm going to come across a diaper or something. I figure if you want somewhere fun to get wet in the summer, go to the beach. Most of the little kids aren't allowed that far in anyway, so you can usually find your own space.

I like the YMCA, even though it's not really a "public pool" per say. I am on the swim team there. I love it! I have a pool in my back yard, but I can't really swim laps or anything in it. But, there are no real public pools around here. I have never been to one.. so I really wouldn't know... w/e

But it depends on where you live. I live in the suburbs & our public pools are clean & well kept, so I have no problem going to one. But I would NEVER go to a public pool in the city- there are too many people & too many possibilities. The idea of a public pool in a smaller suburban town sounds much better to me.
Ps. pefect_me, just because you have a pool in your backyard doesn't mean you're a rich snob. It doesn't even mean you're rich. That is SO stereotypical. A typical middle class family could have a pool, you don't have to be rich. That was an absent minded, ignorant thing to say.

I am torn. I like to swim... (LOVE IT) but i don't really like public pools. The little kids pee, and other stuff. But also, they use WAY too much chlorine... i can't go in a lot of public pools because i am allergic/ sensitive. So my ruling.. DISS. I would much rather swim in my LAKE!

I LOVE swimming but i just cant cos you dont know what people have been doing in those pools, they pee and all sorts and if you swallow so water you basiclly drinking some strangers pee.

It's okay.
It shouldn't matter if people pee in it because you should shower after you swim in a public pool, anyway. I just don't like swimming in public pools simply because...it's public. Everyone I know swims at my neighborhood pool and it makes me a little self-conscious.

I'll only swim in private pools or oceans.
I hate public pools; it's just horribly gross, especially when children are in it. I remember seeing a little boy struggling to use the bathroom, but instead, he ran back to the pool. A few minutes later, he looked like he had relieved himself. Chlorine makes me cough violently, so public pools just don't work for me. I prefer oceans.
