I do it all the time, Im not proud of it--but I dont have enough money to go and buy anything let alone all the friggin CDs I want..If you think about it, its a way of getting music available, the money shouldn't matter...and if a band or artist doesn't understand that maybe they shouldn't be making music.
--Posted by antiauthority90

I do it mostly to get interested in bands...like when I want to hear more of someone but aren't sure if I want to buy a CD or not. Usually I just have a couple songs by lots of different bands. However, I try not to download whole albums because I figure if the music means that much to me that I'd want a whole album I might as well buy it.
--Posted by wildestflower

hmmm...
I think downloading is a good idea. ppl can't afford all the expensive cd's, and most just want one song out of the whole cd. sometimes u don't even know wut the song is called. by downloading guesstimated song titles, u are able to find the right song. it is also a good way to find new songs. Also, some songs/cd's are too hard to find, or are only imports. i disagree only if u are downloading a whole cd, jst b/c u don't feel like using your money.

omg
the person that said that if you were in the music industry you would know well my dad is in a band and makes cds and you know he even downloads music and we also get permision from some of the artist if we can download there stuff too we know how hard it is and you know tough if people down load music you cant get to everyone in the world

Its not against the law
Its not against them law 2 download music DIPSTICKS!!!DUUUUHHHH!!!! GO BACK 2 SCHOOLL PEOPLE!!! Its against to sell them.DUH stupid people!
--Posted by jenerey

what!it is not stealing. some websites just give free, no strings attached downloads.
I get my downloads from the internet for my ipod. eesh- i tunes is mad exspensive. like 1 ***ing dollar for 1 song! what is that? and if your a person like me who loves music downloads alot. so if its free why pay?i tunes sucks. all ppl with ipods should sue. they want all that money for one song. i could get a cd with 14 songs for less than buyin 14 songs from i tunes. makes me sick 2 my stomach.
--Posted by frenchfriluver

money!!????
i think it perfectly fine and normal. everyone does it. its hard regarding as illegal its taken so casualy and BTW i dnt think anyone who makes music for money should get any money so you either make music to express urself to share with the world and for people to enjoy not for ur awards and money. i know ppl need to make a living and im sure they make money not just out of music sales but other ways in the music industry. GOSH.
--Posted by maxined9

illegal but for those who dont have the money...why not!
so what if its illegal? right, alot of people find out about new bands by downlaoding without having to go out and buy a whole album, why not downalod for free? like a tester. it makes sense. plus, some songs you cant find in a CD shop so you find it on the programme your using. its just easier than spending money on a bunch of albums when you can be spending it on shoes or new clothes. :]

I do it
i do it. i cant help it. i love music but cant AFFORD to buy a cd that costs about 16 dollars. lol. i honestly cant. i used to buy cd's all the time.... when my dad lived at home and we had alot of money. now i download most of my music. but i do buy some cd's. cheap ones.
--Posted by futuremissblackusa

sure why not
I do it all the time. Yeah i know its ilegal But im not really worried about getting in trouble?? But who knows??
--Posted by xskrazagurlsx

As long as it's legal-it's cool
If it's illegal-then it's really really bad because the people who worked so hard on the album aren't getting their money! But some artists actually promote themselves on-line by letting sites like Yahoo, Vh1, and MTV provide music down-loads-then it's a fine nice way to listen to a new band without going out and buying the CD to realize that it SUCKS.
--Posted by her_delilahness

Well you can do it legally on some sites by buying it, but even if you get it illegally from a free downloade (btw its not illegal to download where i live anyway :P) I think its still ok. The music industry is sooo rich anyway, and thats never going to change no matter how many kids download a few songs of the computer. Downloading movies i think is a completly different thing, But music just makes sense. Why would you buy a whole 17 song CD when you only like 1 or 2 songs?? & Actually I usaully download a song by a band & then go and buy their CD if i like most of their music. If I hadent downloaded the song then i wouldnt have bought the CD. so it works out in the end.
--Posted by cmacmil57

Why not?
Almost everyone does it :p
--Posted by cece116

its great.
it may be stealing but uh who cares? haha sorry, but its free and alot of the time the artists have enough moneey already. If its a band thats not mainstream or big or anything then i will buy the cd just because that band may not be that succesful yet but something like Fall Out Boy i would donload it definetly!
--Posted by peechykean7

WELL IF ITUNES WASNT SO F***ING EXSPENSIVE MAYBE PEOPLE WOULD STOP DOWNLOADING
okay.if you fill up a shuffle with songs, thats $120 .i already paid so much for the damn thing, so why cant i get the damn music free?its someones choice.it hurting music producers and its hurting my wallet too.1$ a song is rediculous in my opinion. yeah its wrong, but things are exspensive

BAD idea
IT IS STEALING!!! IT'S AGAINST THE LAW!!!!!

This may sound a little over-wrought but..
OH MY GOD...How stupid ARE you people?? I dont usually do this, but I just had to comment on this...first off, fyi to that dipstick that said the artists only get "like 3 cent", youre the one who needs to get a f-ing brain, because if you did, you would know that three cent times the 3 million people that were illegaly downloading music sums up to alot of friggin money!! Also, even if it were 1 cent per million copies, its still their money, and you have no right to steal it!!! My advice to all you diggers is to get off your lazy, cheap, music-downloading, lard asses, go to the damn store and buy the bloody CD! People like you are the reason that the music industry is in the sad state that it is, not to mention the country itself. If any of you idiots were muscicians, youd understand the hard work and time that is put into music, just so whining brats like you can come along and complain about the price, or just plain steal it! How would you like it if you put your heart and soul into something and someone just treated it like overpriced bananas at the grocerie store? You guys need to wake up and smell the injustice here...and remember what goes around comes around...

it IS illegal
if it's free, it's illegal! stuff like iTunes is legal and i totally approve of that but limewire and all that crap is totally not cool. i mean, think of your favorite band. stealing from them? not cool. that's why i don't use limewire anymore. i couldn't bear to steal from the bands that i love.
--Posted by rocksteady1313

i can see the positive.. but. the negative overtakes it.
the positive of downloading music, is that music is meant to be shared and explored and downloading is a good way to get certain musical messages accross and get underground artists more known, but, downloading music is also taking an artist's work that isnt yours.. you dont steal a painting do you? so why do you steal songs? so.. for the bands that want to get famous.. they wont make any money becuase.. all their songs will have already been downloaded. what a sad case.
--Posted by on_the_turning_away

I think its so WRONG
If you really respected your favourite artists, you would not be stealing from them. If I wanted a CD and couldn't afford it, then I would save up for it and buy it. A lot of time and money goes into making music and this is how these people make a living. And fyi, it IS illegal. As Eminem says: "If you can afford a computer then you can afford a couple of dollars for a CD".
--Posted by chocolat_drop90

Its stealing
yeah but you would never go into a music store and steal a CD and walk out again...its the same thing
--Posted by chocolat_drop90

I PAY for what I download!
You really shouldn't break the law, But so many people do it, I hope you get caught! And get sent to jail, If you dont have the CASH to buy it, Then dont STEAL it. Just listen to the damn radio dumb a$$'s!! I use itunes, And PAY for what i download. Totally legal. But illegally downloading music is for Stupid a$$ people. Its not the music industry's fault that you are POOR, you have a computer dont you???So you cant be that POOR!! Get a job!! Its THAT simple!!DUH'
--Posted by suicidegone4ever

worthless...
Like Bob Dylan said, they arent worht anything anyway...
--Posted by r0o0ar

Use a little Empathy!!
Imagine YOU were a musician. Dedicated you whole life to making music. That is YOUR JOB. how you make money. You work SO frickin hard to make a good record. You're proud of it. You hope people will like it (and hope you will get what you deserve for it) So, I think YOU would be kinda pissed off with everyone downloading your music. For free. It's like running a store. And people keep coming in, taking your merch and leaving without paying. That wouldn't be much fun.
--Posted by woohgimmenofx

Idiot Punks...
Most of you idiot fatherf***ers who steal music usually steal idiot mainstream crap that plays on the radio for a billion years. So listen to bloody radio! If you can afford a f**king iPod and computer, how can you freakin' skanks not afford a CD? Which is what? A couple dollars? Downloading from iTunes is perfectly okay and legal, but not bullsh*t like Limewire. If you keep depriving yr favourite artists of their hard-earned money, THEY'LL BE TOO POOR TO MAKE ANOTHER RECORD. But considering the sh*t you all steal, maybe that's a good thing.

?
I thinks its wrong, but it gets addictive.
--Posted by kountry-gul

RIPPED OFF!!!!!
I ****ing hate downloading music! even the free sites (like iTunes) is stupid! it rips off the band! downloading music is 4 lazy people who cant take a few minutes 2 buy the cd from the record store! :P
--Posted by xxemopunkxx

Gah.
My boyfriend does it all the time, but I don't support it. It's certainly tempting, but if I was a musician I'd want to be paid for what I do, just like a doctor or a teacher.
--Posted by nerdysweet

seriously...
Don't be lazy. There are tons of CD stores. The artist or band or whatever spent tonss of time putting together a CD for their fans, and you're going to take the cheap easy way out of buying one of their songs for a few cents? That is lame. I mean either way, the artists are getting their money, but come on. It's still just flat out lazy.
