It is fun
I was in a marching band all through High School. It was really fun and it teaches you respect and following orders under pressue. It is not the easiest activity in the world but it is still exciting to do.

Marching Band? Drum Corps? AWESOME! Love it, Saxophone all the way!
We have some of the coolest people in our band, sure we have no preps or anything like that, but thats because they are cheerleaders and football players and well..our football team sucks (our band has the only *winning season* along with Cross Country and Volleyball and quite possibly Basketball) The people who say Band is for nerds and losers and everything like that usually only say it because they have nothing better to do and are in no extra-curricular activity at all because they are 'to cool' for that.
To cool to go out to competitions and win big and ride around on busses at midnight listening to loud music and driving around the town screaming and blasting the car horns as loud as possible so the town knows that "Hey, this band rocks." Getting to headbang in your Marching Show because, you're director is one of the coolest people you'll ever meet? If hanging out with your best-friends, having fun, acting like complete morons and bringing home trophies is 'uncool' someone better get rid of the cheerleaders, football players and every other sport out there in the great big universe (even though band is more of an athletic Art than a sport.)

OMG That makes me soo mad, some of the stuff ya say about band.!!! Marching band is sooo frickin awesome!
You get to hang out w/ your friends. i mean sure its hard sometimes,...but its worth it if your good. I go to OCCHS and im in the band,..we were undefeated in our class and we got 5th out of 25 at state!!! It was awesome!I Love band,..especially Marching band! You ppl who don't,...ya r stupid.

ok, for all you people out there who 'dis' marching band, i have a couple of questions for you; have you ever had to practice 5 days a week with a f'n 30 pound drum on your shoulders and stand up for more than 4 hours at a time...i don't think so

This is my second year in marching band, and all though it is very painful and time consuming, its all worth it when you hit that field at half-time and do your thing. Plus you get to spend lots of time with your friends.

I heart marching band. I've been in it for all four years of highschool now and it rocks. The fact that you can preform a show that you and your fellow band members put so much effort into is amazing. You don't know what it's like until you finish a show and know you left nothing behind. You put your best into it and kicked @ss. Yep, marching band is effin' awesome.

sure its kinda hard and theres lots of work but doesnt it just feel awesome to go out there and know that all the ppl in the stands are watchin you? i think its great! but on the other hand i could definitely leave that sousaphone in its case cuz i hate it

i'm not gonna lie. marching band camp hurts like -crap- and it takes up a lot of time, but it's all worth it in the end. especially when you get to travel. fun, fun, fun. but it teaches you so much and you get to meet new people.

im not in marching band myself, but my best friend and the hottest guys are in it. to be in the marching band is a great honor to us. they get to go to band camp and its no fair cuz im not in the band!! almost everyone in our school plays and instrument, im on my 5th year of violin. and no, we are not geeks!! we are awesome

Marching Bands are only good if they are bagpipe marching bands. Kilts and bagpipes, thats all a person needs.

i was in a marching band but only cos my freind went......
it really hurts because you have to stand up for ages and the bugle trumpet things are so hard to play and sound crap.
but if you wanna then go ahead but i wont be listening anymore

They don't sound very good, and they wear the most weird outfits. My brother's school marching band played in Disneyworld once, and they had to wear WOOL while they were marching. IN FLORIDA. And not winter, either. Some of them got dehydrated really badly.
Obviously it's not all like that; I'm just saying it's a lot of fuss over something that most people don't even pay attention to.

aight, u dissas...i know why yall didnt like da marchin bands, yall aint neva been in no REAL marchin band befo. da black southern bands iz da ones u need ta join, especially da ones in birmingham, alabama. i'm in P.D. JACKSON-OLIN HIGH SCHOOL MIGHTY MARCHING MUSTANGS band, baby. its a lotta hard work, so if u weak in spirit, body, and mind, marchin band aint for u. dem county school white bands dont do shit, dey dont march, dey juss walk on step. da songz dey play are lame as hell, and, well, white marching bands suck overall. now dissas, join a black band in da durty south n see how much work u gotta put in it, and see how dat hard work pays off. dats da only reason my i know yall dissin marching bands. i been in marching band since 8th grade, n i already play 3 instuments n im juss in da 9th. u gotta be dedicated to it, n obviously, yall wuznt. oh, n p.s....i aint racist. i speak whut i've seen and heard.

this is only on the DIS side so that it'd be on the first page...but yeah, whoever the person was that said "try a sport, it makes you think and give you exercise" your a moron, you probably don't even play a sport. Lets see, i beleive that you have to learn to play something and think about playing the right notes, and rythms that hardly ever match your feet, and you have to stay in step with everyone on the whole field, and be in a specific place at a specific time, its waaay harder than it appears. i beleive i lose about 7- 10 lbs every season. and i'm very much in shape, try 7 hr practices every june...sports are fine, but to say that they're the only thing that gives you exercise is really close-minded and very lame..so yeah, you should porbably get a clue or something. i bet that may be helpful to you one day.

i've never seen a southern band before...i have on the movie Drumline though..but if their the best bands, then why are DCI headquarters in the middle of Bum f*ck Egyp in Indiana...i've been to DCI a lot, and i never see ALL black bands.
If youre talking about college bands then probably so, but i never see any of you all at BOA or anything like that...

Like a lot of people I put this on the dis side so it'd be on the first page.
I'm a senior and this is my fourth year in marching band. I absolutely love it. We don't just walk around aimlessly on the field and blow random notes into our instruments. We practice for as much as twelve hours a day perfecting our marching technique, knowing exactly where we go on the field, playing our music over and over until it's perfect, and doing the same thing all over again all day.
We do get exercise. We're pretty tough. We do push-ups, we run laps, we do the same warm ups that pretty much all sports do. We don't get to do inside when it's 110 degrees. We don't get to take the uniform off when people in the stands are sitting there in tank tops and shorts complaining about the heat.
Being in band is just one of those things you have to experience to appreciate. It makes you feel like you're part of a team more than most sports ever could.
