alrite, u really cant label punk. Simple Plan is punk. They may not be 100% punk, but they are punk. u cant go around sayin who's punk and who's not, labeling people or bands u dont even kno. every1 haz a different opinion about whtz punk and whts not, so i'd advise u to respect other peoples opinions and not to go dissin avril or SP or any other bands. Just because a band doesnt wear eyeliner or have tattoos doesnt mean anything. all bands are differnt in their own way, and their music may all be different. Some bands u think are "punk" sing about stuff other bands also sing about.

green day pratically re envented the punk rock scene.juss b/c they or any other band sound differently than the typical "punk rock" band dosent give any1 the rght 2 dis them.And gc,sp,and other bands u idiots have mentioned dont even consider themselves punk they just want 2 get their music heard and fyi juss b/c u've heard about the sex pistols,the clash,etc doesnt mean ur more punk it just means uve picked up a magizine or turned on mtv here lately.it doesnt matter if they r punk,if u like it listen 2 it.btw if u like my chemical romance try listening to silverstein,from first to last,or the starting line,they r all really good.

I think punk rock is alright...I mean, I am not obsessed with it. But all I am saying is that it's cool. I mean people have their freedom of speech, especially when it comes to music.

Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, NOFX, Bad Religion, Anti-Flag..the list could go on. Older punk bands are better then they are now.
Take a look at The Ramones and Good Charlotte. Hear the diffrence in music...see the diffrent style. Take The Sex Pistols and Simple Plan..see the ***ing goddamn diffrence. Avril ***ing Lavgine and Blondie...*** see the diffrence now.
Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Avril Lavinge are NOT punk rock. They're pretty much pop. Yeah sure I listen to Good Charlotte, I admit it..but I don't call them punk, they're pop(I like a lot of diffrent genre's...GC is the only pop I really like...Eminem is the only rapper I like).
But take a look at 70's punk bands and the ones today.

ppl think of different things when they hear "punk rock" and people will argue nonstop about who is and isn't punk, in my opinion punk rock is originality, doing it your way not giving a shit about anything. Now any band that comes out with dyed hair, make up, and the stereotypical punk fashion is labeled "punk" ..but you really have to listen to the music...what i call "punk rock" tho...I couldnt live without..

Real punk vs poser punk vs unknown genres.
Okay, there's the real punk.
And the poser punk shit. Like Avril.
And then there's the bands that ALOT of people think are PUNK posers, when they actually belong in another genre.
Alot of people hear some indie or emo and they immediatly think they're punk posers, because they think that they're trying to sound punk, when they're not.
That ***ing sucks.
I like real punk. Not the poser punk crap. And I like indie and emo too.
Instead of going "OMGMGOGMOG POSRZZZ!!!! I H8 DEM SOOOO MUCH!!!112" Just ignore them, and just listen to what you want to listen to.

Green. Day. Is. Not. Punk. If another person says they are or how supposedly hot Billie Joe is (he's really goddamned ugly) I'll bite their head off. The bands that were part of the late 70s scene, either in the UK with The Clash and the Sex Pistols, or the New York/CBGB scene with The Ramones or possibly even Blondie and the Talking Heads...those are punk. Not any stupid whiny emo band of today.

What's the point?
I adore bands like Fear and the Misfits, but almost everyone needs to own up to liking at least one Green Day song. I'm not saying it's punk, but it takes you back a ways. Anyway, I HATE the new scene that was caused by the "new punk sound," or whatever people want to call it. These kids go to shows, act like morons, don't buy anything, then dis the bands that do things like cover Fear or Motorhead. It's come to a point where the only shows worth seeing are at parties because you can be selective of who gets in. It sucks. I don't dis the music by any means, but I'm going to have to say I dis the scene. Also, the debate about "what punk is" is absolutely ridiculous. No one will agree, no one knows for sure, and everyone has an opinion. I'll end with this: the only thing more punk rock than punk rock is never needing to define punk rock or what it stands for- that could be the least punk rock thing you could do.
