The Enneagram system of personality types--which our quiz is based on--gives you a number that does just that. According to Oscar Ichazo--the man behind the Enneagram--there are nine personality types. Ichazo uses the nine-sided Enneagram symbol to demonstrate how the types are related. Interestingly enough, Ichazo drew on many ancient traditions, ranging from mystical Judaism to Buddist teachings to classical Greek philosophy, to develop his theory.
