Hi.
I'm not sure from your question whether or not you WANT to go to college, but you do seem to have some kind of plan for your own future, which is admirable. Not being in high school yet, it's probably early for you to worry about these things, but it can be fun to think about your future at any age.
Attending college can be a definite advantage. While you don't have to go to college to be "considered smart," it's possible that one day you might be interested in a job that requires a college degree.
One of the best things about college is that it opens up possibilities. Some people start it with one thing in mind and end up being exposed to so many new things that they find a new passion or passions. For others, it's a chance to focus on something they have always loved--music, for instance, which is indeed offered as a major at many colleges.
College is not necessarily right for everyone, however. Some jobs don't require it. And some people are eager to put studying behind them. Other people simply decide to take a break after high school and consider applying to college later on.
There are so many kinds of financial aid available now that your family's income shouldn't be a barrier. If that's a concern, you might phone some specific schools and ask them to send you information.
I suggest that you give yourself a little time to decide about college. As you move through high school, you may come to know more people going through the college application experience and that might help you understand better what's right for you.
