GHB
(gamma hydroxybutyrate)

Available as a colorless, odorless, salty-tasting liquid. A capful of GBH provides users with a psychedelic high.

Source: The lab

Legal code: Illegal, except by prescription.

History: First developed in the 1980s as a surgical anesthetic, it became popular as a muscle-building and weight-loss potion shortly thereafter and was sold mostly in health-food stores. It was made illegal except by prescription in 1990.

Effects: Users report a sense of relaxation and mild euphoria. GBH reduces heart rate and can cause a depressed feeling. At high levels, it can cause sedation, nausea, muscle stiffness and respiratory collapse.

Risks: There's a risk of overdose leading to seizures, respiratory failure, coma and death. Less severe side effects include headache, nausea and drowsiness.

Do not combine with: Alcohol (which heightens the chance of overdose) or other drugs that make you sleepy.

Addiction rating: Unknown.
