Coffee, good books and a stunning location under the beautiful clouds (and sometimes sun) of Seattle make the University of Washington a wonderful place to go to school. The Emerald City's relaxed and intellectual culture provides just the environment in which to study and make friends.

The "U Dub," as it's called ("dub" as in "w"), is home to more than 35,000 students from all over the world. The academic opportunities are endless and professors are generally open and willing to meet with individual students. If you're interested in studying medicine, nursing, bio-science, computers, technology or engineering, the University of Washington is recognised as one of the best in the nation. If you're pursuing a liberal arts degree, you'll find quality programs, dedicated faculty and compelling topics that will stretch your mind.

Students sometimes feel overwhelmed by the size of UW. But it's not hard to create a niche for yourself through your choice of study, sports or extracurricular activities. Meanwhile, you're getting to know the great city of Seattle: The Ave, Broadway, Capitol Hill, the International District and Downtown Seattle. The eating options are endless, the cafes buzzing, the people colorful and the views outstanding. The UW campus itself offers sights of Puget Sound, Mount Ranier and the Olympic Mountains.

Outdoor activities are a short drive away or even sometimes right outside your door. All year long, there's kayaking, skiing, climbing, biking and pretty much whatever you like. And in spring and summer--especially when the sun is out--the campus "Quad," surrounded by the Arts and Sciences buildings, overflows with cherry blossoms, frisbees and students.
