Article Image How is BDD treated? BDD can be treated with medications that affect serotonin levels in the body. Serotonin is important because it's responsible for regulating mood, sleep and sexual desire. People with BDD often have unbalanced amounts of serotonin and need these medications to help them level off. Drugs commonly used to treat BDD include Prozac and antidepressants, like Zoloft and Paxil.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can also be really great for people with BDD. CBT is unique because it teaches sufferers how to help themselves, instead of relying on doctors or medications. This type of therapy helps people identify their troubling behavior, recognize the disorder and come up with ways of easing the anxiety.
