Deodorant and anti-perspirant are two different ways to treat body odor and sweating. Anti-perspirant aims to do exactly what it sounds like--prevent perspiration. The main "active" ingredient in anti-perspirants is aluminum-based. It works to create a temporary block in sweat ducts. This stops sweat from reaching the surface of the skin.
Deodorant does not block sweat. Instead, it neutralizes odors and fights bacteria. Green experts say that organic deodorant is the best thing for a person's body, since it does not stop the natural process of sweating, and the materials are better for the environment. Some people even make their own deodorant with a half and half mixture of baking soda and cornstarch applied with a washcloth.
It's possible to get a combination anti-perspirant and deodorant.
