There is currently no cure for genital herpes. However, people who have six or more outbreaks per year can follow suppressive therapy. Suppressive therapy is when a person takes medication every day in order to reduce the number of outbreaks.
Other individuals may choose episodic therapy, which involves taking medication over a short period of time as soon as the first signs of an outbreak appear. A health care professional can advise those infected on the right type of treatment for them.
