Cervical cancer doesn't develop overnight. It takes a long time for the cells in the cervix to develop into cancer cells. The cells of the cervix first go through a change called "dysplasia." This is when abnormal cells start to appear in the tissues of the cervix. Eventually, cancer cells start to develop and spread.
