This is the OPENING to your VAGINA.

This is where you bleed from during

your period.

Around the VAGINAL OPENING you may be

able to see the HYMEN. When you were

born, the hymen was a thin membrane

surrounding the vaginal opening,

partially blocking it, but almost

never completely covering the opening.

"Popping someone's cherry" means

breaking the hymen.

The first time the vagina is

penetrated, there may be some blood

from the hymen being stretched.

MENSTRUATION

("period," "being on the rag,"

"that time of the month"

The shedding of the lining of the

uterus which bleeds from your vaginal

opening. Occurs every month after

ovulation unless an egg has been

fertilized and implanted in the

uterus. Most girls start menstruating

around the age of 12, but anytime

between the ages of 9 and 18 is

normal. You don't menstruate when you

are pregnant. Fasting or over-exercise

can decrease your menstrual flow or

halt it completely.
